Update from The House of Plague, Day 5

~~
Snapshots from elisi's household:
The middle one, complaining about the lunch options. She appreciates the evening meals (Darcy is a good cook, yo), but we tend to just go for basic sandwiches on a lunchtime, and (at uni) she's gotten used to feeding herself things like couscous and bagels. She had a mini-rant last night: "And now it's like: Here is a carbohydrate and a beet!" Readers, we laughed. Also, once we're out of quarantine, she's in charge of shopping for lunch time food.
The eldest, who likes her hair very short, laughing her head off as she is being hoovered after a semi-successful hair-cutting session, since (despite wearing the large over-all plastic apron that they used for painting when they were little) she is covered in hair.
Me, looking at a very high up shelf.
"That shelf looks VERY dusty. When did I last clean it?"

The ugly (Genuinely scary & upsetting. Maybe just forward it to the government.)
Coronavirus: Italy's hardest-hit city wants you to see how COVID-19 is affecting its hospitals
The good (From around the world <3)
Well, if anyone wondered what Wales is getting up to
Quarantine in Spain, Day 3

See the human spirit. Hear it sing.
'Nature is taking back Venice': wildlife returns to tourist-free city
Nothing to do with corona, just a BEAUTIFUL library

Lol @ your Nine moment.
Sadly your stockpiling not toilet paper link seems to be gone.

Huh. Interesting.
Also I'm now getting my first real break in, like, a decade, and the US has finally realized what social services are for. So I'm not out here to totally bad-mouth pandemics, you know?
Nothing's so bad it isn't good for something, or however the saying goes. (It's HILARIOUS that our government - not just 'a' Tory government, but this Tory government - has to look after a lot of people who will be doing 'nothing.)
Lol @ your Nine moment.
That is EXACTLY how it went down.
Sadly your stockpiling not toilet paper link seems to be gone.
Thank you - I found a better one, with more ridiculousness. (And which included my original image.)

I laughed my head off at the panic shopping. It does explain a lot. I've gone to the grocery store several times over the past three weeks - and the panic shopping is bizarre. All the cans are gone. At one point all the chicken was gone. All the sanitary napkins. All the toilet paper. And all the eggs and milk. Now the store is limiting customers to one jug of milk and one carton of eggs, along with limits on all paper items. LOL!
People don't know how to handle this. It's like an invisible hurricane.

You're welcome. <3 I think we all need something other than just Doom And Gloom. Laughter is the best medicine and all that. :)

It's clearly a human thing. Even in Denmark people went panic shopping - after the politicians said 'Don't panic'... (And then the Queen went on TV and told ppl off. See next post!)

Nice simile. As the saying goes 'The crowd is stupid'. (I don't know if it's a saying in English, but it's a saying where I come from.)

He showed me something his nephew sent around but I can't find it online. In short, it showed a pair of worn out hands and said "You should wash your hands to a song. In a Gadda Da Vida is not that song."
One thing though regarding the Venice story. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/dolphins-swans-italy-lockdown/ I saw someone else sharing a story pointing out that a video of dolphins swimming were actually from the coast of Italy elsewhere and that the Venice story was connected to a few other stories for other parts of the world that were also not new incidents.

Hats off to the Spanish.

Yeah, have had someone else share a link also. The main point stands though: less pollution = good for the planet. :)

This is, oddly, a nice thing; our government has decided to fine of lock up anyone arriving on the island who doesn't immediately self-isolate for 14 days. There was news that someone had been arrested and locked up... followed by a bit more news.
He was a returning sofa-surfer, or no fixed abode, and none of his usual people were happy to put him up for 14 days, especially if he might become ill. So he went to the police station and turned himself in, for public safety. He is now doing his time in quarantine in a special, secure, quarantine unit - so at least has a bed and regular meals :)

Ahhhh. I saw the news article, and thought it seemed a little extreme (given that I am familiar with small island communities). Thank you for the clarification, that makes much more sense!
