DW S12.07. Can You Hear Me?
So, my brain isn't really properly engaged, but thankfully
promethia_tenk's is still working, so I'll just quote her:
I've had this theory that I'm starting to feel is actually happening that Thirteen's era is gonna work a bit like Five's in that slow-burn, introspective character way: crowded TARDIS, Doctor feels very cut off and blank and tepid, lots of weird narrative holes, somewhat detached perspective, and then very, very gradually you realize everything is far deeper than you'd thought. Well, that's my hope anyway. I've been re-watching season eleven and already feeling like there's depths there I'd not seen before but, like, I still can't put my finger on what they're doing, exactly?
So, elisi's like 'well, I hope you're right, but it needs more cerebral stuff.'
BOOM. =D With name-checks of the Eternals and the Guardians and everything.
~
This episode sits at, like, the intersection of Enlightenment, Snake Dance, Vincent and the Doctor, and Listen and I am here for it. And it's hard to describe, but I do feel like the tone leans towards the former two even if the content is closer to the latter.
In short, I am very much here for cerebral Five-type stuff. Here's to hoping!

And I love your Five-thoughts, and I wanted to write SOMETHING. So, here it is. Thank you Other Half of my Brain. <3 <3 <3

S12 is what I was hoping S11 would be - it's still got problems but at least it's interesting.
Ryan and Yaz got some actual character work at last and I was pleased by that (even if I kind of agree with the Downtime reviewers that it's too late for Yaz). With Graham, I'm torn between appreciating the storyline and resenting how much focus he's getting even now.

Oh no. I have no idea what happened there, to be honest.

Yup. BE ENTERTAINING. That's all I ask. (If it's Five-like too, then all the better.)

What I am hoping now, is that they both leave? As in, decide that travelling was nice, but they want to stay on Earth now and work there. How wonderful would that be? Companions that don't want to stay forever?

I hear ya, but since he's by far the most interesting character... IDK.
Either way, writing fic about Thirteen made me appreciate her so much more (even before S12 began). She is wonderfully flawed!

It's about time we had another Martha exit. :) It seems like Ryan is getting to that point already, not sure about Graham or Yaz though.

He's the most interesting character because he's been given the most development and depth. *sigh*

I can definitely see why she would be fun when it comes to fanfiction because she's suppressing SO MUCH and you can take that in any number of directions.

I have never heard this theory before... I am not sure I subscribe, but it's certainly interesting.
then Thirteen should be like Seven and I am starting to see hints of that.
This is where it breaks down for me. Eleven is Seven-like (looks silly, master manipulator, always ten steps ahead), and Thirteen is very much 'rolling with the punches'. Five-like in many ways, but with her own daft charm and far more damaged & far more enigmatic.

It's difficult to predict what characters will do when we know so little about them or what they want.

Well, they might kill him off. ;) Get the big hero moment.

It's GREAT. Making her god is one of the best things I have ever done.

Yes. *sigh* I had to actually read a comment the other day where someone claimed Chibnall was better than Moffat because he doesn't fridge his female characters or objectify them. It took all my strength to refrain from pointing out that Chibnall fridged a WOC in his very first episode as showrunner and his female companion is the least developed of the three.

That sounds way too subversive but I'm happy to be proved wrong! ;P

Ahhhh. I see. Interesting theory, yes.

Congrats on your willpower. If people want to be will-fully blind, there is very little we can do.

Well, at least I have no idea what's going to happen. I find Chibnall impossible to predict. Which... is both good & bad.

Downtime has posited that one of the things which interests him is absence and missing things, which... doesn't bode well for Team Fam, honestly.

(The fam are very nice. But I can't say I am particularly invested. I *am* invested in Gallifrey.)
