Doppelgangland drabble.
I will get round to replying to comments. But for now I'll just re-post a drabble I wrote for
buffy_love's 'BtVS s3 Episode Challenge' and somehow never re-posted in my own LJ. Buffy's thoughts after seeing Vamp!Willow:
Doppelgangland
The library steps are hard, offering no comfort. Buffy stares ahead, trying to make her mind understand what her eyes saw.
Willow is dead.
It hangs in the air, colouring the world grey, and she knows what she must do. What her duty is now. Glancing at Xander, she can see that he is crushed and has room for nothing but grief, and she wishes that she had the same luxury.
Her mind racing, she wonders if Willow's staking will cost her Xander's friendship.
Slowly a treacherous thought rises to the surface:
Maybe I could get Faith to do it?

I am so very glad that Willow is about to walk through the door alive and well.
Great drabble.

Well DGL is mostly a funny episode, hence the not delving. Although I think they explore the issue very nicely with Anya - the episode this moment makes me think of more than any other is 'Selfless'.
The last line is so perfect! :)
Yay! :)

It's so easy to forget the pain amidst all the laughs! And yes it's lovely that Willow is really OK. :) (Although the fact that as the years go on the characters don't get such an easy way out appeals to me very much.)
And thank you!

Thank you. :)
I'm sure Buffy would squash that unworthy impulse
Oh probably. If I recall correctly, my main aim with that line was to show how Buffy is finding herself leaning on Faith - and Faith is of course already betraying her. Just a bit of extra pain! (Also the situation reminds me of 'Selfless' - and trying to kill Anya *does* almost cost Buffy Xander's friendship.)
