Doctor Who S11.01 The Woman Who Fell To Earth

Um, scattered thoughts.

- Doctor's entrance: A+ Also the music!!

- The Bad Guy was The Evil Toothfairy. We were all MUCH amused. For those not familiar with our family lore, when the girls were little Darcy would tell them about The Evil Toothfairy who might come to collect their teeth, just like the good one. Except the evil one didn't leave money, and she took the teeth to put them In Her Mouth so she had millions of teeth and if the children woke up when she was there she'd bite their head off.

- The Cherub (now 13!!) liked the episode a lot, except for 'too many people died'. I was vv sad that Grace died (although I was wondering whilst watching how Graham was the one to go travelling since his wife was obviously the adventurous one).

- This was a LOCAL EPISODE for LOCAL PEOPLE. (If you don't get that, check out The League of Gentlemen.) Seriously, it was weird. I live in Yorkshire. These were all people that seemed to familiar I could meet them in town. The humour, the atmosphere... the drunk guy picking the veg out of his kebab - 100% authentic & accurate.

- It was all very Doctor Who, with crazy haphazard contraptions and wires everywhere. Loved all the welding (Sheffield steel!).

- Gary was <3

- Family is obviously the key word.

- Mostly then I need to watch it again to get to grips with it.

ETA: Main thing - I could watch Thirteen forever. Utterly magical. ♥

Also this, which isn't spoilery: Doctor Who Weekly Roundup: 24th Sept - 1st Oct Mostly for the picture of thirteen Thirteenth Doctor. :)

That was so much fun. Thirteen has started very well and I am so excited for this season.

Tooth-Predator was extremely horrible.

Kylo Shaw was rightly called out for being a whiny Timothy rather than the Knightly hunter he called himself.

Look kind of reminded me of Tom Baker's era; show not The Doctor. Would love if, when the TARDIS returns it had a bot of that gothic Mary Shelley/Byronesque look.

Was struck by two things that had me rewinding.

A baseball on Rahul's desk - just like Ben Sisko on Deep Space Nine.

And that new sonic looked strikingly like Serenity from Firefly...

And I really want a Grace Lives! t-shirt.

Really enjoyed it, as first episodes go. I'm glad they really only had the one throw away moment of "you're a woman" at the start and then at the very end picking out "women's clothes" but that was it.

Just glad there were no Dalek's or Cybermen LOL they are my least favorite of Doctor Who villains!

I liked the fact that she picked out her wardrobe in a charity shop :)

To para-quote Eddy Izzard, "You wearing clothes? You a woman? Then you're wearing women's clothes."

And was it Iggy Pop who pointed out that dissing him for looking like a woman, was suggesting there was something wrong with being a woman.

And I'd happily never see a Dalek ever again for myself; they got old sixty years ago - and yes I do mean sixty :-)

You'll have to translate from the Scots, but one of the poems for this year's National Poetry Day from the Scottish Poetry Library was about the new Doctor.

Hee, I love the idea of the Evil Tooth Fairy!

*Such* a perfectly Yorkshire episode. :)

Loved Jodie as the 13th Doctor. I didn't really have any doubts but I am looking forward to her run even more now.

Ryan and Yaz are great. Even if I did have a O___O expression when Ryan chucked that very nice and expensive bike off a cliff.

It was very much a LOCAL EPISODE FOR LOCAL PEOPLE. XD

Yeah, Grace's death was very :/// for me, I did not need blatant fridging in the first episode. Also the long list of guest stars was really weird and seemed unnecessary.

Those are the only criticisms I have, though. I can't be too upset with an episode where the villain is officially named Tim Shaw.

Yeah, I have to keep reminding myself that Ryan's 19 and at the end of his tether but even so. I was like "DID HE JUST CHUCK THAT BIKE OFF A CLIFF?!" I was truly surprised that he managed to get it back without any visible problems.

As someone pointed out she was very Doctor-y, but yeah. Also LOTS of people died. Including that nice old grandad. :(

Yes, it was quite brutal for a first episode, wasn't it? The tone and Jodie's effervescence disguised that at the time but now I think about it, there was a trail of bodies!

Yeah, we were all there like 'What is this and why? Can't we just have a Next Time trailer'?

Exactly my thinking. I guess they wanted to show how many shiny people they have for this new series but it just felt weird.

Evil Toothfairy Tim Shaw!

I want a whole web series of Evil Toothfairy Tim Shaw failing at everything.

Yeah, we were all there like 'What is this and why? Can't we just have a Next Time trailer'? But then none of the trailers have really hit the spot for me, so maybe it's just me.
I've seen that bit now and I too was very WTF. Especially since I'd been looking forward to a Next Time trailer or, even better, a 'this season on Doctor Who' trailer.

Alan Cumming, though! I'm excited about that.

I will admit I didn't think I would even watch it, as with the River Son storyline I didn't want to see a female doctor.

However I watched, and enjoyed

Loved it so much. I wonder how dead Grace actually is, it being a show where death isn't always permanent (or I can hope as each episode goes on).

I hope they actually do the theme next week. Love the music, nice change from Murray Gold (who I also love).
