So I have been collecting links
Mostly I've just been dumping them all in a draft in gmail named 'wimmin'. But I thought it was a shame that they should stay there, so here is the mother of all link posts. A lot about #MeToo and Aziz Ansari and... Just wimmin's stuff generally.
The female price of male pleasure
The old implied social bargain between women and men (which Andrew Sullivan calls "natural") is that one side will endure a great deal of discomfort and pain for the other's pleasure and delight. And we've all agreed to act like that's normal, and just how the world works.
Esp good as a reply to Andrew Sullivan's awful post.
(Sidebar: His post finally made me unsubscribe from getting notifications. Which made me sad, because I still remember The Dish with fondness. I never particularly agreed with *him*, but it was the best place to 'read the whole internet' in one place, and he always posted opposing views and comments, so it was nicely balanced. Now however, he's all on his own and his nasty traits are not being challenged. It's the obliviousness that gets to me the most, I think. I remember reading his piece on becoming an American citizen, and I had to stop. He was talking about how welcoming a place America was, and how quickly he'd risen through the ranks and become an editor, and nowhere else was that possible, except in America - and I wanted to reach through the screen and hit him over the head, yelling 'IT'S BECAUSE YOU ARE WHITE AND MALE YOU UTTER MORON! TRY BEING BLACK OR A WOMAN, AND SEE HOW FAR YOU WOULD'VE GOTTEN!' /end rant)
If You Loved Black Panther’s Dora Milaje, Meet the Dahomey Amazons
Some of the fiercest women warriors in history.
(I have not seen Black Panther yet, don't spoil me!)
ETA: Viola Davis, Lupita Nyong’o cast in true story behind Black Panther’s female warriors
Petition: All jurors in rape trials to complete compulsory training about rape myths
Research shows that jurors accept commonly held rape myths resulting in many incorrect not guilty verdicts. Rapists are walking free from court, although evidence is robust. This ruins lives. Rape conviction in the UK is very low. Compared to other crimes conviction is 21% lower.
Do 'dead' models live on in fashion magazines?

Aziz, We Tried to Warn You
The notion of affirmative consent did not fall from space in October 2017 to confound well-meaning but bumbling men; it was built, loudly and painstakingly and in public, at great personal cost to its proponents, over decades. If you’re fretting about the perceived overreach of #MeToo, maybe start by examining the ways you’ve upheld the stigmatization of feminism. Nuanced conversations about consent and gendered socialization have been happening every single day that Aziz Ansari has spent as a living, sentient human on this earth. The reason they feel foreign to so many men is that so many men never felt like they needed to listen. Rape is a women’s issue, right? Men don’t major in women’s studies.

Unrolled thread from @alexandraerin
Here's a thing: the people who are insistent that the sexual assaults being described by survivors are actually "just bad sex" seem pretty blase about the fact that (from their point of view) there's an epidemic of men giving sex so bad it leaves women traumatized and confused.
