I don't know if 'happy' is quite the word to use... The problem (according to some Tory I heard on the radio) is that they have this obligation to house all these people. He didn't use the word 'inconvenient' but it was heavily inferred.
I'm not sure what the alternative would be. Letting them sleep on the street?
They think they are feeding far too many children who don't need it. And that it's a parent's duty to feed their children, so it's wrong for the state to do it. And it's expensive and was only ever a concession to the LibDems. (Like almost all of the non-evil things done by the Coalition).
And it's an evil thing to do but they assume few people who vote care enough.
With any luck at all May will have to drop it like anything else controversial in this maimed government.
Thankfully most of the worst stuff (like cutting school dinners) didn't make it into the Queen's Speech. However they found a Magic Moneytree to pay off the DUP...
The problem is there is no money and it needs to be raised - the best way is through income tax hikes but all the parties are so afraid of that for some reason! Everyone I know would happily pay a bit more income tax so that all these services aren't cut! Mind you I would want a guarantee that the extra money went to the NHS, emergency services and social services. The Tories just don't seem to understand people do they?

"Oh no, people might get something they are not entitled to! How can we stop this evil?"

But dammit.
This is an attack on THE most vulnerable in the whole of our country, and there is no word for it but despicable.

One lot that worries people are being given stuff they are not 'entitled to' and another lot that worries that those in need go without.
The second kind will never understand the first.

My only consolation is that it cannot last.

No, they really don't. And I don't understand them...
