Play It Again, Sam Part 2
Here comes Part 2 - I would like to write something about 'Flashmob, The Opera' but that will have to wait 'till later. First chapter of fic is here.
So for now, just follow me, gentle viewers - I mean readers - to a dark (but not stormful) night.
Play It Again, Sam
They're not mine, but belong to Joss & ME - I just borrowed them - basically a repeat of what I said the first time...
Part 2
Spike looked at the man who had ruined his life - or at least, that’s what it had seemed like at the time. Although his face when he had seen Buffy in his bed.... it was probably something they taught as part of the basic training: ‘If in doubt, act like Robocop’.
Briefly closing his eyes, he tried to focus on the present. It was obvious that the poor kid was completely confused - former government lab-rats did not usually command special ops teams. Nor did evil bloodsucking fiends save damsels in distress. Oh, he was going to have a LOT of fun this time.
“Do you want me to bring him in Peaches? I think he might need a little looking after, especially since one of his guys got poisoned.... Of course - and did I mention that he brought his very charming wife?...Right, we’ll see you in a minute.”
Riley suddenly seemed to wake up. “One of my men is hurt? Where is he? What...?”
Spike cut him off. “Don’t worry, we’ll make sure he lives to see another day - brilliant doctors. Not all human though - I hope that won’t be a problem?”
Sam put a hand on his arm. “Thank you so much. I’m sorry my husband seems to have lost his manners. Would it be possible to come along in the ambulance?”
Spike shook his head. “They’ll probably be crowded, luv. Why don’t you go talk to your guy, and when the ambulances get here, I’ll give you a lift - we’ll be there before they will.”
Sam gave him a big smile and dragged off a stammering Riley.
Having seen his team members taken care of, Riley started looking for Spike. He wanted some answers! The assault team was efficient and well trained, and Riley instinctively trusted them. But... for they some reason answered to Spike, who apparently worked for Angel. Riley vaguely recalled Buffy saying something about Angel being a private investigator, only private investigators didn’t have private armies... he really needed to find out what was going on. And this time there was no-one to beat up for information.
Spike was talking with Wesley when he saw Riley and Sam approach. Turning on his brightest smile, he beamed at Sam:
“Sam, let me introduce you to Wesley Wyndham-Pryce, the head of Research and Intelligence, and expert on anything old or magical. Wesley, this is Samantha Finn, wife of Riley Finn.”
Wesley smiled and shook their hands. “Very pleased to meet you Mrs. Finn, Mr. Finn. I understand that one of your men was wounded. Rest assured that he will be given the best care possible. Spike tells me that he has already extended an offer of hospitality towards you both, and let me reinforce that - I’m sure you could use a good rest. ”
Taken back by the cultured voice, which was at odds with the mans rather scruffy appearance, Riley hesitated for a moment before answering.
“Thank you, Mr. Wyndham-Pryce, but I think I will have to check with my superiors before agreeing”.
Spike laughed. “Just tell them that you have a personal invitation from the CEO of Wolfram and Hart, and I’m sure they’ll give you 2 months leave on the spot!”
Riley was beginning to feel as though the whole world had conspired to confuse him. “The CEO of what? Who?”
And there was Spike, looking as smug as when...
“That’s Angel, mate. Wolfram and Hart is his law firm - just come along with me like a good tin soldier and I’ll explain on the way.”
Why did Angel have a law firm? How come Spike was in LA.? And apparently friends with a well educated englishman? Who must either be evil or unaware of Spike’s true nature. And as for going anywhere with him without witnesses...
“How do I know you won’t try to kill us?”
Sam, looking rather embarrassed, took Riley’s arm. “Please darling, why on earth would he want to kill us, he just saved our lives.”
Spike smirked. “I think your dear lady wife has a point, army boy - unless you think I might have reason to?”
Turning his head Spike smiled sweetly at Sam, and Riley felt a sudden surge of anger.
“For Christ’s sake, Sam, he’s a vampire - Hostile 17 no less. A.k.a. ‘The Doctor’ who was hiding the Suvolte eggs 2 years ago! He’s a deadly killer and the sooner we get out of here the better!”
Sam’s eyes went wide, but before she could speak, Wesley cut in.
“Mr Finn, I think you will find that a great many things have changed since you last encountered Spike, the main one being Spike himself. Many of us have done... things... the repercussions of which we have to live with every day. Spike maybe more so than others, but in the time I have known him, I have seen him display great courage and selflessness. I personally am very happy that Spike has decided to work with us - souled vampire champions are hard to come by.”
Looking somewhere between bemused and annoyed Spike turned to Wesley. “No need to defend me Percy, next thing you know I’ll be blushing! Well, metaphorically speaking anyway.”
Riley looked from one to the other.
“What do you mean ‘souled’?”

I'm sort of new to LJ so just thought I'd say hello and tell you that I liked your two pieces - yay, go Wes - and looking forward to more! Riley's lack of understanding is quite funny - sort of reminds me of Buffy and Giles trying to explain things to Wood in early Season 7. I really liked Spike's phone conversations with Angel - very amusing! :)
Er, just a thought, but wasn't Spike fairly compromised in the clothing department the last time they met? Good ammunition for either one probably!

Very glad that you like! This sort of started out as an anti-AYW, so instead of being in control and sorted, Riley is completely thrown! :) (I'm very shallow! Hee.)
And good observation re. clothing - I never thought of that (me - forget nekkid!Spike? That's un-possible!!!)
Thank you so much for commenting!

Yeah, nekkid!Spike. Just glad I could remind you of the nice memories. :) But, er, I'm sure it'll be good for a plot device or later speech or something....

it looks longish, so I'm saving it up.
I don't think I'm capable of writing anything but longish. One day as a challenge I'll have to make myself write a story of 1000 words or less!

And I'm hopeless at writing anything short - I've done a few short pieces, and even some drabbles, but generally I just can't stop myself. This fic being a case in point! It started out as just a tiny little idea and the whole thing ended up being around 16000 words... my current WIP (see icon) is already 18000 (written down, I've not posted that much yet), and I'm not even half-way through yet... *sigh*
