Re. latest LJ outrage...
Life feels a little like this at the moment:

Trump is going to destroy the planet, the country I have lived in for 20 years has been taken over by Brexiteers, merrily steering us towards the most impressive own goal in British history and my fannish home is being taken over by Russians.
To those who've had enough & quit for good (or are thinking about it), here's a handy guide:
How to Move to Dreamwidth and Like It
As for me - well, I've had this LJ longer than some of my children, so I'm going to hang on. I mean, Theresa May can probably read my emails already, and who's to say she isn't sharing them with Putin?
ETA: Oh and I'm not sure the US is all that much safer (article here - with thanks to shapinglight). Not to mention that facebook practically BLEEDS personal information (and might have helped Trump win - with thanks to maia for the link).
So basically:

Besides, it's a rare treat to be able to use 'quixotic'... If you've upped sticks to DW, please make sure I've got you friended, I'd prefer not lose touch with anyone. And obviously I'm already cross-posting and have pretty much everything backed up etc. Meh. I just want shiny things to distract me.
ETA2: FYI - the hive mind has discovered that the popup won't work without Javascript. So if you need your LJ but don't want to sign... There's your way around it. :)
ETA3: From beer_good: 'AFAICT, the Javascript thing isn't perfect; it lets you look at LJ and admin it, and from what I can tell you can comment as well, but you can't post or edit entries, nor can you import things to DW. So as emergency workarounds go it's very useful, but not very sustainable in the long run.'

Ummmmmm . . . This always makes me happy:
ETA: oh, and thanks for the re-pimp.

I deleted my journal. It's gone. Hasta La Vista LJ. I don't mind that much, I imported everything, and I talk to as many people over here as there.

I guess people just want some measure of control.

And I wish I'd gotten a permanent LJ! I don't think it's an option anymore. If I could, I would. (Which may sound odd, but I'd like not to pay them more money, yet keep all my pretties... Because LJ without the pretties is unthinkable.)

Hee, that's slightly terrifying! Where does the time go?
I got as far as setting up a Dreamwidth account so I could keep up with people who have vanished from LJ, but I don't know when I will get round to doing anything with it.
We had a meeting at work the other day talking about how the university would have to re-think its use of US-hosted websites due to Trump repealing some kind of data security agreement. So yes.

Beats me. Although since I had an LJ baby shower for the 11 year old, it most certainly has gone...

I've written a very basic guide here. It's a useful thing, but I've never taken to it. Still feels like an up-and-coming copy-cat. ;)

D: Ugh. We shall have to get used to tin cans & bits of string, me thinks.

DW is... serviceable. But not much more.

Its a faff having to check two flists, but I don't want to lose touch with anyone, so hey ho.
I would ask what more can go wrong, but I probably shouldn't say that out loud.
Very true. They are fantastically good at doing the wrong thing.
I'm not overly bothered by the Russians taking over LJ except I kind of worry about them having my credit card information and such.
I'd be more worried if I actually had any money! ;)

As your icon says, it is what it is and I haven't got the energy even get outraged about it anymore.

Nothing lasts forever... the girls were VERY SAD that Club Penguin died. That was a huge chunk of their childhood, gone.
I've got the fic backed up, the comments saved and I'm usually on tumblr more than anything now anyway.
This is how the world ends...

Same here. I love LJ, I will be here until the end, but they have literally put their foot in it every. single. time they've done anything, so this is just par for the course. ;)

(But there's all my images - and DW image hosting is shockingly bad - and I just wilt.)

War with Spain, why not? /o\
Indeed! I'm not going anywhere, but I'm going to try and see if I can at least shift more to Dreamwidth and stabilise one bit of my life. Of course, that may be impossible, but I feel more motivation to try than ever before.

I generally like to have backups of everything I do, so yeah, good policy.

Partly, I guess, because it's one of the 'moods' and it's only once in a blue moon that anyone can ever use it. I mean, no one really understands why THAT was chosen as a mood. It comes from Don Quixote, and the Cambridge Dictionary defines it thus:
'having or showing ideas that are different and unusual but not practical or likely to succeed.'
Does that help?

It's a good word! Such a long definition, and you can say it with just one word.

Huh. I did not know that. Interesting. And happy to help. :)

Isn't it just? I love English. <3
