jennyo was talking about how ~~all~~ most TV shows are racist (not enough black people!!!), including Torchwood... which is of course set in *Wales*, not downtown NY. And the Welsh are probably grateful that there's someone beside Daffyd representing them on TV. Except Jenny doesn't care about people who've been oppressed if they're white: "I must honestly admit I don't give a shit about Welsh people, and that I will probably from now on hope that the Welsh are, in fact, further oppressed." Dude, you couldn't make it up! Aaaaanyway, read all about it here. *happy sigh* That's some quality wank! If nothing else it proves that the Torchwood fandom is completely bonkers and absolutely marvellous! To quote one of the comments, which might be my favourite ever:

"It involves alien-hunting and a cyborg fighting a pterodactyl, and I am quite, quite certain that every single pairing is canon. Just watch an episode, pick any two of the main characters, and I can pretty much assure you that it's either canon or will be canon in the near future. It's just a fanfic-writer's dream."

"I think it has everything it needs to be able to make a really good show, once it finds its groove and figures out its characters and the writers get over their "OMG SEX! At one point are those who have empathy for others and directly opposite are the fanatics, whose only distinguishing characteristics are what they are fanatically about. Like Wm. I mean, you almost have to hand it to jennyo. She just keeps dragging along that same old mantra and tossing it on new fandoms as they come along. I think she'll always find that inner source of kerfuffle well into old age.

My pleasure! ;) Unlike usenet, where (as far as I can tell) people will argue over *one* detail ad nauseam, the fandom arguments around here tend to be wider, and revolve around bigger issues. Oh and the egos match of course - you have your BNFs (Big Name Fans) whose minions will leap into the fray to defend their leader and it all ends up as the sort of glorious mess you saw! The rest of us just make popcorn and settle down to enjoy! :)

Oh I saw that! It was one reason I brought up B/A, since I can identify with them, but still think they're idiots! (And actually re. the Connor thing, then what irked *me* most was the way Angel kept waving the bottle at the baby whilst worrying that he wouldn't drink it. How was he supposed to when it was miles away?)

One more thing that came to mind as I was thinking of the crazy world of fandom. Because the craziest fandom of all is the Harry Potter one! (Or so I've been told by people in the know.) If you feel like reading about a *totally* bizarre slice of HP fandom history, let me recommend The Tale of MsScribe. (I never finished it, because it is v. long, but OMG the insanity!!!)
