What can YOU do?
So, I've been collecting links.
First of all, Hillary Clinton’s Popular Vote Victory Will Likely Keep Growing, and The electoral college doesn't vote until December 19th:
The Electoral College Was Designed to Prevent Trump. You Can Make This Happen.
Follow the link for more info, but very simply how do you accomplish this? Easy: Write to Republican electors in states that went red, and beg them to vote their conscience.
Goodness knows that if they declare Hillary President you might descend into civil war, but it's worth a shot? At least you will have done everything in your power. And SPREAD THE WORD!!!
There is also a Change.org petition that you can sign.
More info on dates & how the system works here.
However, this is a slim hope. So, how to prepare & start fighting back?
How to set up an anti-fascist group
Autocracy: 6 Rules for Survival
And finally, two tweets about what you can do to make minorities feel safer:
Edit. Bit rushed due to lunch break. But - I think that having a dreamwidth backup is very useful. Crossposting is faffy, but considering all the hacking & monitoring, things could get difficult, and no one knows how much Trump's stooges would try to curtail communication or protests. But then dreamwidth is based in the US... I don't know. I've never had to think about these things in all seriousness before. But. I remember
anniesj getting a visit from the Secret Service... Just be careful. <3

Sorry! I am a bit wary of this Russian-paranoia (scary as their gov't is!) that flavours some DW-LJ arguments and, well, you know... ♥
ETA: I deleted my previous comment, because it's probably not fair now either to you or to OP (if taken out of context) to have the quote still there like that. (But not to be funny!)

I hadn't even thought of it in that light, since - as you say - I'd probably be the last person to tell people to get off LJ. *clings*

Well dreamwidth is US owned, so there's no safe place, really, if they start cracking down.

Fair nuff! ♥

And on that scary thought, let's continue clinging to LJ. *hugs* (Or Dreamwidth, if needs be!)

*nods* What a world we live in. :(

Yeah - I love LJ too much for words, so here's to hoping.

I will say this for the US: freedom of speech is the nearest thing we have to an absolute right, and this is pretty much agreed upon throughout the political spectrum You are not allowed to preemptively censor information (you can be liable after the fact for things you publish that are untrue, but the government cannot prevent you from publishing something) and the first amendment, true to its title, tends to supercede all other considerations in the courts (again, wherever you fall on the political spectrum). I do not think Donald Trump's threats against the press are going to go far, and I am in general terrified about how much other Republicans have folded when faced with him.
That said, I kind of agree with the argument that the Russians are not likely to care about what we say. Phones from Chinese manufactures (as opposed to phones that are merely manufactured in China, which is basically all of them) are starting to become a thing here, and you hear concerns about 'oh no, but what if the Chinese government is using them to spy on us!' I'm like, what the hell does the Chinese government care about where I'm buying my coffee? There is no information that the Chinese government can collect about me that they can use to any kind of consequence in my life. The NSA, however, I am very concerned about spying on me . . .
Which is all a very long and rambly way of saying that it probably doesn't matter too much where you post and, if these things concern you, maybe consider a donation to the Electronic Frontier Foundation?
