A quick hello...

Weekends are *not* good for LJ! Too much family time, too little me time (of course I am incredibly lucky to have a wonderful family etc. But...)

Anyway, I came to ask if anyone knows of a Spike & The Coat icon? (As in, Spike walking along wearing The Coat, all swirly and stuff.) One that makes you go 'Spike/Coat OTP4eva!OMG!' (No text necessary btw), I don't have one, which I'm beginning to realise is v. bad. Because I want one. (Or maybe something like this, but without the vamp face...)

And a small fannish thought for the day. I cannot count the ways in which I love ‘First Date’, and I’m not about to start counting. All I’ll mention is the Buffy and Spike’s tandem explaining to Giles about the chip. Because it is such a wonderful evocation of their tandem lying to Joyce back in ‘Becoming’

Buffy is even wearing identical hats!

Good for them! (I didn't know that Ozander fans existed until now...)

I think there were a lot of them when the show was still in the high school years. Plus there's that vid with Nicholas Brendon and Seth Green playfully *fooling around* in MTV's Vidoes That Don't Suck.

I'm not actually sure Spike ever calls it a duster - that might be fanon.

Call me sad if you like... but I did a text search of the shooting scripts. Neither Spike nor any of the other characters ever use the word 'duster' - but his coat is called that in the stage directions of two Season 7 episodes:

First Date

Her mouth still on Wood's fork, she looks up to see Spike. (By the way, he's not wearing his duster.)

Lies My Parents Told Me

EXT. CENTRAL PARK - 1977 - FLASHBACK

A BIRD'S EYE VIEW, amid the downpour, of a battle being waged between two combatants whom we'll soon learn are NIKKI, the Vampire Slayer (in her BLACK DUSTER), and 70's punk (not the same outfit as train in "Fool For Love) SPIKE (in VAMPFACE).

There's also this from Never Leave Me:

Black boots walk along the street. We move up the body, we see the black outfit, black leather duster, the cocky swagger...

We get to the face and reveal ANDREW. Dressed up like the Spike of old. Trying desperately to look cool.

It's a bit like 'The Scourge of Europe' which I think is also completely fanon... Now I wonder if *that* was ever used by the writers.

Nope. At least, not in any script. Apart from those demons in the Angel S1 episode, the only character ever described as a 'Scourge' is Connor...

Very good catch! I rewatched their scenes in Becoming the other day and wondered how did I not see their chemistry the first time and the way that they complete each other's sentences and have each other's backs even as mortal enemies? Oh yeah, the Angel angst was clouding my brain.

Buffy kept her hat for 5 years

Small quibble - the hat in Becoming is a utilitarian knit work/winter pull-on cap similar to this one, but a bit stiffer and heavier:

Whereas the hat she's wearing in FD is more of a cloche (I rewatched to make sure): it has a stiff, rounded crown, a rolled brim, and when she turns her head to the left you can see the outline of some sort of "flower" or "bow" ornament, similar to this:
