For now, a few links about women...
Social media 'fuels gender violence'
I knew it was bad, but this article has statistics that shocked me:
The UN estimates 95% of all aggressive and denigrating behaviour in online spaces is aimed at women.
The Thing All Women Do That You Don’t Know About ('All' women does not of course mean every woman.)
And, on a cheerier note:
Fight the power: how the female superhero is finally taking flight.

I'm considering Jessica Jones (yay Netflix), but S3 of The Bridge has just started. Also Doctor Who...
But some day.

YAY! I've been wanting to watch that SO MUCH. It'd be like a Christmas present.

It's more that I'd like something I can watch with people. And Agent Carter should hopefully qualify. :)

Oh definitely! It's in line with the movies for family-appropriateness. Except better and more awesome and more charming and with 1000% more PEGGY CARTER.
(I was getting annoyed with all the bitching about Black Widow in the movies because STOP PAYING YOUR MONEY FOR CRAP AND WATCH MORE TELEVISION.)

I'll have another look, but it hasn't been so far...
Over here the assumption is Agent Carter will go up a few weeks before season two is going to air (this winter).
Well, here's to hoping!

I've seen the beginning of the first Capt America movie, where she is AWESOME. :)

Well, just because TV isn't terrible doesn't mean movies can't try that little bit harder.
ETA: Doctor Who on in 1 hour!!
(Not sure if I can watch live, as we have a visitor. We'll see.)

Poo : ( I hate distribution agreements. It's like people don't want you to watch their shows.

I have a great vid but, alas, spoilers . . .
Well, just because TV isn't terrible doesn't mean movies can't try that little bit harder.
My point being that studios understand two things: money and attention. If you don't like what someone is doing, vote accordingly!

It is possible my expectations are slightly too high for this episode. But boy do I hope not.

Tie them down and make them watch.

It is simultaneously gratifying and depressing when statistics back up your experience. The BBC did an investigation into this, I wish I could find what the programme was called, they went into schools and talked about the availability of porn and how teenage girls felt pressured to live up to that. They also talked to female journalists who receive constant abuse online, including rape threats.
See here for more
It is good see more female-centred series out there.

My thoughts exactly. :(
Thank you for the link - I'll add, as well as another one I meant to post, but forgot.

It really is. It may be baby steps, but at some point, surely...

I happened to be discussing the issue with my husband a week or so ago, and he was rather dismissive... I sorta wish that getting the 'last laugh' wasn't quite so comprehensive. I'd much rather it were a smaller problem, like he thinks.
