2 things.

My ten year old daughter has started learning the violin.

Yesterday she brought it home. (It's not hers, it belongs to the school.) She practised enthusiastically for 3 hours...

In much better news, I had THE most awesome dream last night. It's difficult to remember specifics, but in short, Missy was my mother. I can't begin to explain how brilliant it was.

Hahaha. You poor thing. Console yourself with the idea she could be the next Paganini.

I seriously regret not taking my music lessons seriously enough as a child, because now I basically have to learn music theory on-the-fly while studying / working as a sound engineer

Brava to her!! A very rewarding musical instrument - it can bring many hours of happiness. :D

Dude. That is just massively marvelous!

This post makes me wanna draw hearts everywhere!!

LOL!! Ahhh the Early Days. No worries, it will get better. I promise. :D

Such dreams are the best kind to remember! I've had loads of lovely 'fictional character' dreams (and at least one 'celebrity' dream) and they still make me smile to this day.

Aww, lovely lady. I truly have no response to this one, other than - Thank you...

*HUGS YOU*

Sherlock approves. I hope your hearing survives the initial training period.

I don't think I'd be as enthusiastic to have Missy as my mother. But I'd take the Doctor (in several forms) as my father.

so, what WAS that fleeting reference Missy made to her "daughter"? is that canon? wassup with that?

i hope you remember more dream details!

Oh, you brought back memories of when my brother started lessons! At least with my clarinet I play a wrong note, it is still a proper note!

Aha, good luck to her in learning - and the rest of you in surviving while she does!

:-)

My Husband and Son once came home with a drum set. WoW! That has been a DELIGHT. Now that my Son has grown and gone - I STILL DON'T MISS HIM POUNDING ON THAT DRUM SET.

I've lived with violin players twice. The first was when my sister made a feeble attempt to learn in, I think it was seventh grade? That was no fun. But a few years ago I lived with an accomplished violinist and it was glorious, I would fall asleep to him playing. So: godspeed your daughter through the terrible ear-wrenching early days as quick as possible. :)

For her sake - and everyone else's ears - I hope she masters it quickly! Earplugs don't sound like a bad idea. I've always wanted to learn to play the violin.

Haha, it's worth it, if your ears can take it. Maybe buy some earbuds?

I read once this is why so few adults learn to play the violin - they can't stand the sounds they make. Children are not bothered by it.

Enthusiasm never should be quenched! Complaining in places she does not read is okay though ;)

You're very welcome! I really like this. It is well written. You can see that she is a bit fangirling herself but who wouldn't ;) But I think it is also amazing how quickly he got the hang of it. And it is interesting to hear about behind-the-scenes, with her standing outside the window. You don't imagine things like that.

Oh, dear.

Earplugs?
