Hopefully, people will realise that today doesn't mean this:

But this:

And Andrew Sullivan came out of 'retirement'!!! At least for today. :)
It Is Accomplished.
(I only wish the other news from around the world were less horrible...)
Also, relevant to this post: Straight guy get emotional after gay teen was disowned by family.
ETA: Ten of Doctor Who’s Most Romantic Moments (in honour of the Ponds’ wedding anniversary 26.06.10!). Somehow that just thrilled me to bits - gay marriage became legal [in America] on their wedding day. They'd be so chuffed! <3

In other words, w00t!!1!
And then the violence around the world reminds me of all the heartache we still have to deal with. Dear lord.

On the BBC news they had some choice quotes. I think it was Huckabee who talked about tyranny... Darcy was just shaking his head, bemused.
And then the violence around the world reminds me of all the heartache we still have to deal with. Dear lord.
Yeah, the rest of the news was horrifically depressing. :(

And oh, that wasn't actually the one I was thinking of. Although that one is... heart wrenching in a completely different way.
Watch this one after. Youtube made it after the gay marriage announcement.

Hopefully this news will set a bright international example. Here in Italy, of course, there is still so much to do: we didn't even manage to pass a civil union law, let alone a gay marriage one. The main reason is that we have had such unstable governments lately (if you're curious, a just left a a verbose explanation over at redbrunja's journal, LOL) that every kind of reform, no matter how necessary, is beyond impossible. If politicians can't agree on a badly needed new reform of the electoral system how are they supposed to deal with such a divisive issue as gay marriage? *sighs*
But there's also the Vatican long shadow to consider and a long tradition of bigotry to overcome.
