I wrote a story...
I don't really know how to begin this. Basically I wrote a story. A side-story to one of my fics. It was supposed to be short and neat, a nice little coming out tale, something to distract me from other, more complicated writing.
That... didn't really work out as planned.
A few months later the story is finally finished, but it's now 80k (40 chapters and an epilogue), and although it is still a fic, it's only very very loosely so. By which I mean - it's set in a Doctor Who AU, but you don't need any knowledge of that 'verse (or Doctor Who itself) to really follow the story. (The main thing being that includes my OC Alex, so people who like his stories might like to read this one, although he's very much a supporting character, on the sidelines. The only canon character to show up is Jack in a handful of cameos.)
What I'm trying to explain is that George, my protagonist, didn't just surprise me - his family, his background stories, opened up and revealed themselves to be fascinating. To the point that I am seriously considering dragging him out of the fic world and turning him into a 'real boy'. (When I say he/the story surprised me, I mean that quite literally. *I* was shocked by some of the revelations that appeared.)
Now there's obviously an issue with the fact that I am not, nor have I ever been, a 15 year old gay boy, coming out. I am hugely aware that I am tackling a mine field, and have endless ways of getting stuff wrong. I apologise in advance, and would be very grateful for any corrections or guidance. (Please no flames. If you have an issue with anything please let me know, but I would never knowingly set out to insult or upset.) Seriously I am pretty terrified about actually posting the story. But I love them all too much to keep them to myself.
However, despite possibly turning the story into a book, I would still like to share the actual fic, and have been pondering how to do this, as I don't particularly want to publically post a potential novel. So I decided to utilise one of my other LJs - in this case one I set up years ago for my original writing: when_i_write.
So! That's where I have posted Chapter 1 for everyone to see, although I'll post the rest flocked. So, if anyone's interested, that post (or this one) is also the place to sign up. Leave a comment, or friend when_i_write, and I'll friend you back (from when_i_write) so you can see the rest of the entries, which I'll post as and when. Maybe a chapter a day? On week days? Or something? Suggestions welcome.
(Also, although I keep saying it's 'almost a novel', it's very much a first draft, so please bear that in mind. Plus, further story possibilities are already presenting themselves. My mind, quite literally, does not know when to stop.)
Summary: George Harold Bottomley often wondered why - if he was as ‘Gifted and Talented’ as everyone kept telling him he was - he was also so ordinary. Well, except for the fact that he was gay. And there was no ‘ordinary’ way to come out; no script to follow. But he desperately wanted rules - an established, accepted way of doing it… Like a form to fill out where he could put a cross in the ‘gay’ box and it’d get filed away with all other information about him, and he’d never have to worry about it again. Sadly, the world did not work like that. At all.

Well shall I friend you (on LJ) so you can see the rest of the story once it gets posted? I know how busy you are, so please don't feel obliged. But if you ever feel like it, it'll be there.
I always enjoy your writing
And I yours! ♥
although I comment on it criminally rarely.
Yeah... Guilty as charged. I'm the same. I have so many great writers on my flist, I feel constantly neglectful.

Oh, my goodness, yes!! I constantly feel guilty at not reading or commenting on some fantastic writing from really talented friends. Is it awful that I feel much better knowing you're in the same boat?

I meant, friend you with the writing LJ! If you friend that back, you'll see the entries, but even if you don't you'll still be able to see them. :)
Is it awful that I feel much better knowing you're in the same boat?
No! We can be guilty together! (I love this icon.)

I think we should make up a song about feeling guilty together about our fanfic reading habits ....

And oh, a song about feeling guilty. That's rather a tall order, I'm not good with making up songs. (I don't think...) Can't we just look at a picture of Ten in the rain and let the guilt soak into us? ;)

Oh, Ten, you precious, precious puppy ....

:D That makes me happy, esp given your latest post. It sounds like you could do with a laugh...
Yeah, Ten is my very dear darling. <3

Yeah me neither, but at the very least it's written by the original team.

Am still not sure about posting schedule, but it'll get there slowly. :)

Your ability not to immediately slap things up at the earliest opportunity never ceases to amaze me . . .

Also I'm a J. Patience is one of my virtues. ;)

Kaffy and I have a whole conversation about guilt, here... *squishes you back* (At least I console myself with the fact that you keep winning stuff, so obviously other people are being sensible and appreciating you, like you ought to be.)
YAY! Saw that!! *Adds you back*

Aww!! You two are marvelous, sweet and VERY BUSY people. No need to feel guilty about anything. *Snuggles you and Kaffy* As for people being sensible when reading my work...that is another debate for another time, lol!! Bless you for being sweet though!

I love it to pieces & dunno what I'd do without it...

Although not as busy as you! No idea how you manage. *snuggles you back*

LOL. Possibly a bad choice of words. But you know what I mean. Reading good fic is definitely a sensible thing to be doing.
Bless you for being sweet though!
♥ And likewise.

You should be all added - if LJ will bother to work.
