Weather.
A little clarification re. my last post: My parents are Danish, but they moved to the Faroe Islands when I was tiny, so that is where I grew up. I have now lived in the UK for a loooong time.
And to give you a flavour of the place that isn't touristy, I thought this would be perfect. I happened across it on youtube, and it's quite simply lots of youtube clips of weather in the Faroes shoved together. (Don't worry, the first clip has no sound - it's not your computer.) Also, re. that first part, then I showed it to Darcy and he took in the situation, then said: "But that's INSANE! I don't want to watch someone DIE!"
Don't worry, no one dies. But it's... pretty insane. Am also pleased there are segments on our brave little - and not so little - ferries.)
Incidentally, the worst storm [ever recorded] was the Christmas storm of 1988. At its worst, the wind was measured at 62 meters per second (that's 138.6 miles per hour). Although to be fair, at that point the Anemometer broke.
Mind you, storms are a winter thing. In summer there's generally rain and fog. (And sun and wind and then more rain and then the next half hour is going to be *really* changeable... *g*)

They are indeed. And they have more cars & PCs by head of population than any other European country... :)
I don't think I'll ever complain about my local weather again! : )
It's all about perspective!

Boston is right on the (Atlantic) ocean, so we get our share of fog, damp, and howling gale-force winds (also snow), but nothing like what's shown above. Yikes!
I'm tired of cold, that's all. Today is St. Patrick's Day, but it feels more like New Year's Day--blustery and very, very cold. Give me two or three months, though, and I'll be whining about the heat. : )

Well there are busses, but I wouldn't want to be car-less there.

Well, everything's built for it, so the damage is usually not too bad. And people are used to it. There was a storm recently, and my parents got all their torched & candles ready in case of the electricity going, brewed a but pot of tea/coffee/hot chocolate (I can't remember which) and had a lovely evening listening to the radio which had live updates from all around the country. Very cosy, they enjoyed it. :)

It's just sort of grey and blah here. I want spring now, plz.

The ferry footage just all reminds me why, even though ours is only occasionally quite that bad, I prefer to stay on my small island, at least in winter!
My island, too, used to have more cars than people, at least in the 1980s and 90s.
Changing the subject totally, I have just had a saw THIS and thought of you, moment.

But it might not... ;)

M-hm. I cannot count the number of times I've seen a ferry bravely taking on wind and waves, battling its way out of the harbour. (My parents house has a gorgeous view of the capital & harbour.)

Oh there's not more cars than people. Just a lot of them. There's more sheep than people though.

Oh that's priceless! Esp ticked by Ten as a long-haired chihuahua and my darling Eleventy as mutt! ♥

(And yes, the video is very cool. I keep being distracted trying to work out where things are...)
