Things I watched.
Must be Christmas, I've watched several things. Minor (spoilery) rambling beneath the cuts.
Avengers
I've seen Thor and all the Iron Man movies, and a little bit of Captain America, so was mostly curious as to what happened that caused Tony Stark have panic attacks in Iron Man 3. Still don't know what the guy with the arrows is called. (I'm sure they said, but I'm not good at paying attention.)
Favourite parts were the Hulk throwing Loki about like a ragdoll, and Iron Man saving the world. ♥ Oh and the Bruce Banner/Tony Stark bonding. Can we have a movie with just those two spouting 'science' at each other?
Watched some of the DVD extras as well, and the point where Joss said something like 'I write for the visual moments' made Darcy go on an extended rant, the main point being that the producer should at that point have said that they were getting a different writer! Mind you, I think the bit Joss was at that point talking about was when the big aircraft carrier rose up from the sea... I know we only watched it on a small screen, but my girls' immediate response was 'Oh it's just like the Valiant on Doctor Who!'
Mostly it was a fun movie, and I definitely enjoyed it. I just have zero interest in and knowledge of Marvel comics.
Death Comes to Pemberley
This was fanfic. Beautifully filmed and acted, and pretty well written, but fic from start to finish. I liked it a lot. The casting was lovely, and Jenna Coleman was brilliant as Lydia - which reminds me that Julia Sawalha - who played Lydia in the 1995 TV series - was also the Doctor's companion, although later! Anyway, once the whole baby subplot was revealed the solution was pretty easy, considering there was a very limited number of potential suspects, and only one had an actual motive.
Mostly it felt a bit strange, because I felt like I should be reading it... I knew every beat of it (the character stuff), because it did what fic [almost] always does.
Sherlock
Now this I just loved. It was funny and clever and touching and everything it should be. My highlights.
- All the reactions. Especially loved Lestrade, and Mrs Hudson.
- All the Sherlock/Watson stuff. Watson's face! And Mary is made of win. <3
- The way fandom was handled. Seriously excellent all round, esp the Sherlock/Moriarty kiss.
- Sherlock's parents. Moffat said they saw Mycroft & Sherlock as akin to Niles & Frasier. I approve of this.
- Mycroft & Sherlock. ('I'm not lonely, Sherlock.'/'How would you know?') By far the most fascinating dynamic in the show, and the writers seem intent on delving into it. Especially love how much things have changed, from Mycroft's 'I worry about him. Constantly.') in A Study in Pink, to Sherlock's quiet concern here.
- Sherlock & Molly. I think I ship it? Again, compare and contrast with S1. (That kiss at the beginning of the episode? I really want that for real...)
