Icons.
So, the whole idea for posting stuff sort of came from this. Because I was tidying up all my folders (for the first time since... I can't even remember), and I realised that I had 37 icons in my 'Icons by me' folder. And since I turned 37 today, that seemed rather serendipitous. Also I was surprised I'd made that many, and figured that maybe people might want them? Not that they're brilliant, as my skills are really not something to write home about, but at least I can always look at this post and go 'Hey - I did that!'
Most of these are Doctor Who (spoilers up to, and including, the recent trailer). If you take any, please remember to credit?

How are we psychic like that? For the past two days I've been obsessed with the idea of learning to do icons myself… (Nothing much to show for it yet, except for this crop, which looks better when it's not in icon format, and a few tweaked versions I'm kind of iffy about. Beginnings, though!)

*wibbles* That's a TON. *flails* (If you want #8 to say something else - like your name - then I'm happy to make you one especially.)

Heh. I've been toying with it for... quite a while now. At least a year, probably more. And mostly because I decide that I *need* an icon of something or other, and I can't find one.

Heeee, well they were pretty and you know me and icons ;) I actually grabbed 27 too and couldn't be bothered to edit for a second time.
(If you want #8 to say something else - like your name - then I'm happy to make you one especially.)
That's adorable, thank you! But I like my textless icons, so I'm all right :D It's just beautiful.

Getting that! ;) Well it's win-win, you get your /own/ icons and we get the shiny stuff as well!

LOL. 27 is a work in progress. I might try for a better version...

No, the circle-y stuff is Gallifreyan and says 'The Seeker'. So I can make you a personalised one in the same way, with flowsoffire. ETA: This is your name:

That will certainly be nice to see :) I really like it for now, however…

Eeeeee Gallifreyan! At first I was like "…how do you do this", but I googled it and found out you can learn :) Well, now that you already have my name in Gallifreyan… (I can't type that without squeeing…) It would be lovely, indeed :D ♥

Well, it might never happen, so keep hold of the one you've got! *g*

It is EASY OMG! Just go here and download (right hand side, a little down):

It's like *magic*! :D :D :D I should have something by next week.

And okay—thanks! :D ♥

Your cropping is lovely, as is the depth the quotes add. And the Mr Sweet one is hilarious!

You like my cropping? It's one of those areas where I am ALWAYS jealous of others. The quotes however are usually a given. (As you can probably tell, most of my icons are meta-heavy. *g* I NEED something as an icon, and if I can't find it, I make it...) And Mr Sweet came out of a conversation with

I do! It's very... harmonious. F. ex. I love icons where people are either in the very middle or more to one side, and I'm also particular about where the faces are cropped, and yours are pretty perfect!
Those meta icons are very nearly summarising Eleven's run/character on their own -- so cool!

*beams* Mind you, 'harmonious' is probably how I'd describe what I try to achieve. Something that 'sits' right. Which is why I'm not very adventurous.

So they are! Heh. Didn't really notice that. :)

Happy birthday btw!

And thank you for the birthday wishes! *hugs*

I love how meta some of them are!
23 uses a quote from Angel. A character is a ghost, but he discovers that he can affect the world as long as he wants it enough:
"Reality bends to desire. That was it, right? That's why I could touch Fred, write your name in the glass. All I had to do was want it bad enough."
Which again ties in with one of the over-arching ideas on Buffy - emotions equal power. (I have a whole host of quotes for that one. Can drag them out if you're interested!)

ETA: Speaking of icons... I've dived back into my Doctor/Marilyn fic, and now all I want to do is add Marilyn quotes to River screencaps. I mean, look at this:
Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world.

If I'd observed all the rules, I'd never have got anywhere.

I have too many fantasies to be a housewife. I guess I am a fantasy.

I'm very definitely a woman and I enjoy it.
Plus, obviously she and the Doctor were perfect for each other (too long for an icon, sadly):
Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.

I've started working my way through the manual. It's . . . not a page turner. I am totally dork enough to read the whole thing, though.

You'll have to join Tumblr and start making gif sets ; )

I'm dork enough, I just don't have TIME enough. :(

Hahahahahahahaha. No. (I leave Tumblr to my 14 year old.)

By the principle of shared brain, if I read it, you'll know it. I think that's how it works . . .

I feel like I'm writing with my left hand . . .
However, as I seem to have solved the rather annoying problem of not being able to type anything because the stupid program kept activating the keyboard shortcuts, I shall declare victory for the time being.

Good grief, sounds awful! Glad you solved it!

I kind of want a new 'metaphors' icon again. Am not sure what I want it to be, though. Thoughts welcome.

Deactivated that shit. *nods aggressively* Who uses keyboard shortcuts anyway?

Tis good, so people say...

Hmmm. My other one is this one. The problem is that we have too many? Metaphors I mean. But I shall give it a think.

They are handy, but only in certain cases.

It's weird because I remember playing around with old, old Photoshop back when I was in, like, elementary school. And I can kinda remember it. So as I'm reading through the manual I keep going 'oh, hey, that thing! That's what that's for!'
I kinda wish I had something I desperately want to make to compel me, but maybe it's just better to read and absorb. So I made Clara thinking about sushi instead.

The last two just kinda jumped out at me as being obvious choices. The center of great big metaphorical complexes. The leaf is the obvious choice, but I dunno. Maybe the special will make something coalesce.

Lucky you! I have zero experience with Photoshop, sadly.
So I made Clara thinking about sushi instead.
Well, it's something to do with fish...

How about something from She Said, He Said? They are, quite literally, walking through meta after all...

Oh, no, I was seriously young. We're talking the slightly more confusing version of tooling around in MS Paint. No actual skills acquired ; )
Well, it's something to do with fish...
I'll be honest. I'm not entirely sure where sushi eating fits into the metaphorical structure.

Hmmm, might take a look. Though there aren't any particular metaphors that stick out to me in that one. It's more like . . . a pool.

I had a drawing programme when I was young. Sadly it was NOTHING LIKE MS Paint, or Photoshop...
I'll be honest. I'm not entirely sure where sushi eating fits into the metaphorical structure.
Nope, let's not go there.
