I REALLY like this blog...

The Toast: Fat, Broke, and Stylish: How Not to Walk Around Naked.

The first rule of Fat, Broke, and Stylish Club is that there are no rules. Well, there are some rules. There are nudity laws, and things having to do with hygiene. But any rule that tells you a certain kind of clothing is forbidden for your body type is simply preposterous and should be treated with the same amused incredulity you normally reserve for pyramid schemes.

And via the comments:

WTF, Evolution?

The only rule I think she should have mentioned is: It must fit properly.

If your clothes don't fit, you don't look good, no matter how cute your outfit is on the hanger.

I learned earlier this year that I have been lied to my entire life about stripes. Horizontal stripes are not the enemy. Horizontal stripes are awesome. Horizontal stripes are like "helloooooooo, curves!" Vertical stripes your eye is like "yeah, I don't know who you think you're kidding, honey . . ."

Oh, that's awesome! I particularly like the part about "Dressing to annoy your mother". I... probably (if I'm honest) did that when I was in college. She wisely ignored me, with the exception of one huge blowout over the appropriateness of artfully torn leggings, flannel, and doc martens for Christmas Mass. Why yes I am old!

I'm mostly in neutrals these days, but I have a weakness for whimsical shoes. I'm wearing owlshoes today.

Yesterday was

Hee- are the yellow doc patent leather? I saw a bunch of similar styles at the mall last week. Lots of back to school shopping! I wore the heck out of docs for most of the late 80s- 2000ish. I still have one pair of boots! Sadly not yellow, but super, super comfortable. And since they're stylish again... They do look cute with leggings/ skinny jeans!

And the owl shoes are teh bomb. They're Alegrias, and super comfortable. They come in a ton of colors and styles. And work with my orthotics, bonus! The owls were actually on sale, but I love them!

I have plantar fasciitis
(thanks, 20 years of 12-hour on-you-feet shifts!) and shoes that 1) don't cause me pain and/ or 2) make the problem worse are hella spendy. I did get the owls on sale though for $75. I think that's a little less that 50 pounds!

Oh, word! And after all the physical therapy and stuff I like me better not in pain!

Elisi, go look at the 'sale' section on www.alegriashoeshop.com - they have Alegrias from about $49. They are worth every penny, too. I have two pairs for work, and you know what? My feet and back don't hurt anymore.

Word!

HA! I own those owl shoes - aren't they awesome? :)

Hee-- great minds, etc! They are indeed awesome. And they jazz up my boring scrubs, so bonus!
