I've got nothing!

Today was Sports Day at the two eldest' school. And OMG the HEAT! I am a puddle. I was outside in the bright, hot sun from 11.30 to 3.30 - and I'd left my sun hat at my in-laws yesterday. Wah! If you're wondering why it took so long, then I guess I should explain that it starts off with a picnic for parents & children, before moving on to the sports. My wish for my flist today is that you may all have lots of cold dampness whereever you are!

Not much else to say, since I'm kinda busy with house and children and trying not to melt into nothingness... on the AOQ front I've realised that 3DMaster isn't an idiotic creep - he's a creepy idiot. Hating Spike is one thing, but trying to make Harmony out to be smart? That one was all new to me. And fun! :) Then today he came up with these gems (all from the Intervention thread where 3D claims that Spike was lying to Buffy because he knew it was her and not the Bot!!!OMG!!!):

3DMater wrote:
Another interesting thingy that shows how much he's lying through his
teeth, is that here he's saying he doesn't want Buffy to hurt, because
it hurts him, yet next year, he'll be actively seeking to cause Buffy
that hurt, because that's he found, is the way into her panties.

maxims replied:
Yeah, I've never been able to understand how fictional characters can
act act one way under one set of circumstances and differently under
another, because in real life people never do that.

3dMaster's response:
Really? I've seen real life people do that plenty of times.

I don't know whether to laugh really, really hard or to bang my head on the desk. I think I'll go with laughter! *g*

And when *I* (foolishly, I know) quoted to him from the shooting script, which shows very clearly that Jane Espenson did not in any way want us to think Spike was lying, this was his response:

I don't care. What a writer thinks, what a writer writes, what's in the
script, doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is what's on screen.

Maybe he thinks Buffy was a documentary?

But I must run again or my dear husband will get all growly, but not in a good way!

re 3DMaster, I can never decide if he really is as stupid as he sometimes sounds or if he's just playing the whole bunch of us. He certainly seems unable to comprehend the least little bit about people, their motivations or their psychology. I've thought about commenting sometimes but don't really know how to do it without using the words people/humans/etc and if I did that he'd just come back and tell me Spike's not a person and vampires are totally evil and they aren't capable of responding like a human and therefore what I said is wrong and doesn't apply - tho not in such nice words. And, of course, never actually addressing my point either.

I had to laugh when someone (peachy passion, perhaps?) in one of the threads asked him to email her to explain why he believes vampires can't love. I thought, jeez, I've only been here 3 weeks and I could tell you why coz I've only read what he believes about a zillion and a half times already. He is obnoxiously and nauseatingly repetitive where vampires and Spike are concerned.

I'm seriously thinking of leaving before S6 starts. There are so many Spike haters in the group, tho perhaps none quite as absolute and vitriolic as 3D, and I can just imagine the things they'll be saying for most of S6. I'm not sure if I'll be able to take so much hatred... especially not of Spike, who is the character I love most in the Buffy/Angel 'verse.

trying to make Harmony out to be smart
Bwah! Oh that's just... Well, he *would* think that, wouldn't he? :D

The only thing that matters is what's on screen.
::headdesk:: He really doesn't get that he's completely misreading everything onscreen, does he? If he's so unsatisfied with what actually happened on the show, maybe he should be writing fanfic to 'correct' it instead of insisting that his twisted version is what actually happened. hee.

OMG. Hee. He's apparently the kind of guy you don't laugh with, you laugh at. ::smirk::

maxims is me, but I've a feeling you guessed that ;-)

Aw, gee, Mrs Darcy, you're making me blush! ::shuffles feet and grins foolishly:: I'm glad to see someone's finally said straight out that maybe the knights aren't human - seeing that both they and the monks apparently come from Glory's hell dimension, it's hard to see how they could be.

Ehh, 3D Master's been that way for years now. Actually, he reminds me of one particular guy from an old fandom of mine who hated one character so much that he made up the most ridiculous theories to try and justify his hatred and pretty much ignored anyone who tried to point out how the actual canon facts contradicted said theories. 3D must be his long lost twin. :)

[identity profile] sylva-rerum.livejournal.com 2006-07-19 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, well, I know he's been posting to the newsgroup since at least 2001, which is when I started lurking there. I didn't stay very long, though, since everyone's attitude started to bug me.

Sounds like! Was he Dutch by any chance?

I think he was from Germany, actually. Not too far off. :)

I've been meaning to talk to you actually - first of all I love your icon and secondly I've finished the painting! I could scan it for you (tomorrow) if you'd like a pre-view? :)

Cool! Sure, I'd love to see a preview of it!

[identity profile] ibmiller.livejournal.com 2006-07-17 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee - that's hilarious. But also sad. And Harm is smart, yeah. She can, um, um, dress real good. And she always makes Angel's blood nice and warm. Uh, and stuff.

Sounds like Mr 2D Spike is a rabid reader response critic - without any sophistication. Seriously, I'm reader response, but authorial intent is very important. Like, art is communication, like, yeah. If there is anything being communicated, it should be from the author(s) to the audience, not some self-congratulatory self-to-self communique that 1D seems to want.

Kay, sarcasm rally over.

True, true. Anyone who watches "Lies my Parents Told Me" knows that Spike and Dru were christening pillars and floors long before 1900. Plus, how much of FFL did Petrie write, anyway? He says on the commentary that he didn't write much of the episode when all was said and done. Which I think is good, because the man seems to have a wooden ear for dialogue.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe... 3DMaster is actually Joss Whedon. And he's just acting all crazy like Joss if fond of doing. Is that fanwank?

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe... 3DMaster is actually Joss Whedon.

Ow! You've just broken my brain. That's possibly the most horrible (and funniest) contribution anyone's made yet to this discussion...

As for season 6: before AoQ started his reviews pretty much all that was still happening on the newsgroup was people arguing about how bad season 6 was. I'm kind of dreading all that starting up again, but on the plus side maybe all the arguments have already been made, so there'll be nothing left to say?

Finally, hi, Elisi. I've stalkedfollowed you here as threatened. :)

::hollow laughter::

Like that's ever stopped anyone...

I can just imagine the scenario - a usenet user, fingers poised to type "You are all [insert epithet of choice]! Character/season/episode X sucks with the suckitude of a thousand sucks", actually PAUSES, listens to their brain saying "Oh wait, I've made this argument before, maybe people read it then, maybe they won't be interested in reading it again, maybe I should try thinking up a new approach" and then DOESN'T SEND THE MESSAGE!

Yeah, I have a vivid imagination.

Believe me, I erased about six responses to his comments, basically saying he reminds me of J. Jonah Jamison of Spiderman fame.

But then I realized, at least Jonah was occasionally capable of admitting he was wrong.

This 3Dmaster person is beginning to seem like a court jester. You really can't do anything else but laugh at him.

The upside is that he makes the Spike haters seem idiotic. :)

Heh! Which of course they are.

Phew - I'm glad you all lasted through sports day - we've got one to go to tomorrow 12.00 until 3.00 with picnic lunch followed by sports, in a field with absolutely no shade. Deputy Head (and lots of parents) want it cancelled, Head thinks it should go ahead. I'm taking suncream, hats, lots of water and an umbrella.

When do your children get summer break over there? I hope that they had fun at Sports Day despite the icky heat! We've had a really pleasant summer where I live, and I think that I should count my blessings from everything I've been reading from others lately! :D

If you have a moment can you hop on over to my LJ to discuss the icon challenge at LSL? I'd like to get the winners to e_v before I go to sleep. *smooch*
