Watched Thor tonight...
...years after everyone else, I know.
I knew I would HATE everything they did with the mythology, and I did, but it was *so* ridiculous that I almost didn't care. I mean, to *me* (Scandinavian!) THIS is Thor and Loki:

Oh and Idris Elba as Heimdal nearly slayed me. To me, he looks like this:

Aaaaaanyway. Fun movie, entertained the kids, although the best moment was when SHIELD faced the big shiny fire monster thing that Loki had sent after Thor, and I-forget-his-name said: "Is that one of Stark's?" And I had to explain to Impish Girl that he meant TONY Stark, i.e. Iron Man, and all the 'verses were linked (and all of them got together for Avengers) - and she then demanded to watch Avengers NOW NOW NOW! *g*
Instead I started reading them one of Peter Madsen's comics, because they are awesome. ;)

Avengers was more fun IMO. less of the silly Marvel mythology!

I ROTFL'd at the line "Is that one of Stark's?" A nice little in-universe joke.
I like the Avengers universe, but I kind of look at their take on Norse mythology as similar to how Greek mythology was on Hercules and Xena--the writers will alter it to suit their purposes. (And no, I didn't read the comic books). So it doesn't really bug me. Plus, there's LOADS of eye-candy, and... what was I going to say? My brain just melted. : D
I'm looking forward to Thor 2 this fall.
I will say one thing, the Avengers-universe movies are a zillion times better than the bloated snoozefest that was The Hobbit. : 0

I should really look that up. Like... I think I'm supposed to watch Capt America before Avengers. *pokes*
And I'm kinda in love with Hiemdal.
Dude, he's Idrid Elba, 99% of women are probably in his thrall. *g* (He's been suggested as the new Doctor. Dear god, it'd be worse than sex-on-legs-Ten...)

Good to know! Like Iron Man very much, btw, partly because he breaks all the rules! :)

Did see Thor though and I suspect not knowing much of anything about the mythology (or the comic) helped a lot ;)

LOL!

Beautiful little line. Esp because it *does* look quite like one of Stark's...

It's a bit like what Disney did to Winnie the Pooh. Except the outcome is watchable (in a popcorn way) and not hateful.

Ooooh yes. Very shiny.

Uh-huh. I'll be seeing that in 3 years time probably. *g*

I don't know about the 'verse generally (I'm quite partial to Iron Man), but I liked the Hobbit, and it was about a gazillion times more interesting than Thor. Thor was shiny, but not much more. Not to put it down, it did exactly what it said on the tin and I was entertained. But not much more. The Hobbit - whilst not as great as LotR - had far more weight and heft. A single scene with Thorin outweighs alllll of Thor. (IMHO, of course. I just *really* liked Thorin.) I shall probably write a post at some point, I keep meaning to. /is half asleep & going to bed

And yes. Captain America before Avengers, lol!!

I didn't care for the Hobbit. I think it's ridiculous to stretch a relatively short book--shorter than any of the LOTR trilogy, which all managed to be compressed into one movie apiece--into THREE movies. And it's being done by padding out the original story with stuff that was never meant to be there in the first place (a complaint I also had about the trilogy, but even those feel like an exercise in restraint compared to the Hobbit). I guess I'm just not too enamored of Peter Jackson's "take" on Tolkien. I find most of it overdone/ over the top, and missing most of the subtlety, beauty, and humor of Tolkien's writing. I'm re-reading "Fellowship" right now, so this is kind of a sore spot with me. : )
But I did enjoy the movie version of Gollum--man, they really did that one right! I could watch Andy Serkis play Gollum for three straight hours and not get tired of it, LOL!
I could imagine a very funny crossover with both Thor and Thorin and the hilarity that the mixed-up identities would cause. : D

I shouldn't worry, it's very unlikely.
Also - lots of hugs and good thoughts and prayers your way.

Oh great fun. Although I can barely remember anyone's names (most I never caught). Can't remember what the female love intetest is called, f.ex, and have no idea who Thor's 'mates' are supposed to be (the only name I caught was Sif's - the Xena one - and as she [in the myths] is his *wife*... Yeah, pop corn stuff. Would like to see Avengers though, and see them all spark off each other. (Have yet to see Iron Man 3...)

Huh. They cut lots for the films (the whole Eowyn/Faramir romance, f.ex, not to mention the Scourging of the Shire), and the 'extra' stuff mostly comes from the appendices. Mind you, I know plenty of people who didn't like the films, or Peter Jackson's take. Personally I am very fond of them, and the manage to co-exist with the originals quite comfortably. Some things bother me (don't talk to me about what Disney did to the Jungle Book!), but the Tolkien films don't. Can't really say why, they just don't... *ponders* They pad things awfully, but they still follow the basic structure & characters, more or less. Something like Thor merely steals the names and a few items and then replaces all the interesting stuff with generic blockbuster fare. (Which doesn't bother me, unless it's the Jungle Book. Or Winnie the Pooh.)

Mmmmmm. I think Thorin would probably appreciate [movie] Thor's boisterousness (dwarves like a laugh), but he's a grown up in all the ways Thor isn't. (Sorry, rambling now. Will stop.)
