The Original Character Interview Meme
Snagged from my flist. Interview with Alex, just turned 21, at more or less the current point in Dating. (Some of the answers would change depending on when he was in this story/his life, so this is a very specific snapshot. Mind you, he wasn't impressed with the questions, so if you want to ask him anything, go ahead!)
1. Care to introduce yourself?
I’m the Seeker, the last Time Lord. Well - the youngest. Of four. Also known as Alexander Saxon, or 'Alex' for short. Too much of my father’s son for my own liking, but not evil or insane. Also smarter. And more sensible. (Well I'm more sensible than the other three put together. Whether that is nature or nurture I'm still trying to work out.)
2. Job or Occupation?
Currently - student. Generally - I want to know everything. And I like building and creating things.
3. If you had a vacation, what it'll be?
I’m planning something for my girlfriend. So it’ll have to be a secret for now.
4. If you traveled in time, what history would you change?
I do travel in time, and I don’t change history.
5. Look! A mecha that looks kinda like you! *points to the mecha*
Fascinating. I wonder who made it... Probably my future self, if I had to hazard a guess.
6. What are you going to do with it?
Take it apart, find out how it works and whether I made it myself and why. Then I’d store it away in case I ever needed it.
7. Fwoosh! *throws the character's favorite food on their face*
I’m never inviting you round for dinner.
8. What's your favorite music genre?
Depends which era I’m in. Not Wagner.
9. What is your favorite mythical creature?
When I was little I wanted to create a pegasus.
10. What's your favorite musical instrument?
Don’t really have one. I can play just about anything, but I’m not a musician. Ask me again when I'm older and have developed more of a personal taste.
11. What's your favorite weather?
Not too bothered by weather. But something that’s not wet and cold.
12. Do you believe in... Santa Claus?
No, but I find the concept intriguing.
13. Look at the person on this mirror! *pulls in a mirror, which shows the Opposite Version of the character* This, is the anti version of yourself, from another universe!
I always wondered... *tilts head* Dad must love you.
14. Have a cake! *cakes the character with a big cake that contains the character's favorite flavor*
Seriously. Never having you round for dinner. Blathereen have better table manners.
15. What's the worst and humiliating thing that happened to you?
I’m not going to answer that.
16. If you had a pet, what it's gonna be?
I’ve got a small pterosaur. It’s called Princess Leia.
17. What's your favorite song?
Right now... I’m not sure it’s my favourite, but the song that I identify with at the moment is called ‘The Boy With Two Hearts’ by the group The Boy Least Likely To. (A bit retro, I suppose.) Funnily enough not for the hearts thing (although that’s very serendipitous) but more for the overall sentiment. (Lyrics here.)
18. Who's your favorite artist?
Not sure. Haven’t met a lot yet. Or did you mean whose work I like?
19. What will you do if you found a treasure chest containing treasure?
If possible trace the rightful owner and return it. Otherwise probably give it to my girlfriend.
20. What creature have you always wanted to be?
A cat!
21. Here's another mirror! *pulls in another mirror, which shows the Steampunk Version of the character* This is the steampunk version of yourself, from a universe of the age of steam!
Too much hero coat. And you seem to misunderstand... Oh nevermind.
22. Do you believe in someone or something?
Not really. This is probably a flaw.
23. Want me to end this meme now?
But we just started. And you’ve not asked me any really interesting questions yet...
24. Ya sure?
Now that’s just a nonsequiteur. Do people normally say yes?
25. Then tag someone before you leave... via cannon!!! *shows a fancy cannon aiming to an open window, which leads to a large, comfy mattress*
Redjay, I hope you will oblige. But I won’t use the cannon, unless you want to try it? (I've been fired out of a cannon when I was in the circus, that was fun) See? You never even asked about that! Does anyone else have any questions?

I once told Allison that I was raised by a hero, a villain and a secret government agent.
Now Dad just wants me to be his very own little Mini-Me, his perfect partner in crime, and the Doctor mostly tries to make sure I don't go down that path. Jack is the only one without an agenda, which is why he's the only one I trust and confide in. To a great extent I am raising myself I suppose - trying to work out what I believe for myself, what feels right. Which isn't easy.
As for the Gallifrey part, then that's something I often wonder about myself. I'd certainly enjoy a more structured approach to my education, and having peers that could be actual peers and not having to lie all the time. On the other hand, I've got more opportunities and freedom than anyone my age could ever have dreamed of.

I am curious by nature myself. I gather, from your chosen name, that you are too.
36- Do you see Jack and the Doctor's great coats as a form of armor against the enemies?
37- Do you think you could have been raised with siblings? I had none until after I was adopted by a great house. And then they weren't true siblings.
no subject
And you know, I'd never thought of their coats in that light. I suppose that makes sense. Actual armour would make more sense though. Not that I can't appreciate a good symbolic gesture, but when you're constantly courting danger it seems prudent to take precautions. They're very brave (I don't think I could ever lead their kind of life), but they're quite frankly not that good at thinking ahead.
As for siblings, then I figure if Dad hadn't been stopped I'd have plenty. It would be nice to have someone else like me around... *sigh*

I'll have to check. Right reality .... you may have an older sibling.

I'll have to check into it. I'll keep questioning you anyway. :)
... Gallifrey is gone ....
.... Doctor is alive ... what does he look like?
.... Master is alive .... is Lucy? I never met her.

no subject
So, you're not 100% Gallifreyian. At least 10% ... I wonder how he managed that. Time Lord traits don't show up any higher .... normally ....
I'm pleased to meet you, Seeker.
no subject
And I don't know what exactly dad did, but I'm pretty much all Time Lord. Mind you, he was aiming for a Mini Me and that didn't quite turn out as he planned. (Although, if the Doctor hadn't stopped him... Goodness knows how I'd have turned out. Like Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen probably. *shudders*)
no subject
I guess he's learned to live with disappointment?
If he were around here, I'm sure he'd try with me again too.
Oh, my name is Magdelenadvoratrelundar. My friends call me "Maggie." Feel free, Seeker.
37 or so - what education did you receive? There are some excellent University's on Earth. I assume that's where you are at, if Jack and Theta are there.
no subject
My given name was Alexander the Great. (See, clever Earth-history reference!) Which turned into Alexander Saxon, obviously. People (humans) tend to call me Alex. Dad still likes to call me Great One. Might have preferred 42 syllables, to be honest.
Oh, education. Well, went to a human school for gifted youngsters, where I got some good friends, was bored in lessons, and took every subject they'd let me. The Doctor tutored me on the side. (And still does - or rather, he going to take that up again.) When I was 16 dad gave me my own planet, so I spent a couple of years turning it into a new Gallifrey (brilliant, wonderful hands-on work, I was so happy) - balancing ordinary school on the side), but then when I turned 18 had a major row with the Doctor and dad and got sent to Cambridge for three years (without a means of escape!), where I was monumentally bored. Although I learned every trade going. Then did a BA, and MA and a Doctorate (in astrophysics) in the last half year. Which brings me up to the present, when I can get back to actually LEARNING something. The Academy took like a hundred years to get through, I know that I have so much left to learn, before I can even begin starting my own proper projects.
That got long, huh? But I do so like learning.
ETA: The education thing is where I really miss not growing up on Gallifrey, to go back to a previous question. The Doctor may be brilliant at saving the world, but he is so disorganised that is drives me crazy. And how am I supposed to arrange my own teaching when I don't know what I need? *is frustrated*
ETA2: Am very pleased you got my Dune reference. And, to answer a question you haven't asked - if the worst nightmare is turning into Feyd-Rautha, then a very close second place is Muad'Dib. To be some sort of predestined hero/saviour figure is seriously the stuff of nightmares. At least the evil guys tend to break free. The heroes have all that destiny stuff hanging around... All I want is to be left alone to find stuff out and create things.

Ah, 21 ..... no. Don't remember it. :) That was up to 1000 years ago. I have lost absolute time reference and relative time in this reality flows slightly faster than my prime reality. It pulls at my time sense to the point of lunacy at times. Only my tardis knows for certain and he says I'm 1041. *shrugs*
38- Do you find your talents leaning toward one course of study? Father was a brilliant engineer and could build almost anything. The Doctor was similar but uninterested in his studies. The Rani was into genetics. I tended toward medicine but I still try to tinker and create.
Given your studies in astrophysics, I recommend temporal theory and navigation. That was a 10 year course at Academy but the basic theories can be learned in less time. I can recommend some reference texts.
I would be terribly frightened if you said Theta was organized and made plans. I would have though you were in a reverse reality. :)
I'm glad we have Frank Herbert's works in common. Paul Atredies always fought the prophecy to the point of becoming it. It is always important to not take visions too literally. Attempts to alter fixed points can be messy and time reasserts itself anyway. Minute adjustments are always best and achieve the best results.
And, I think I trailed off into a temporal dynamics lecture.

And your life sounds delightfully crazy! Mmmmm, time. None of my human friends understand it at all.
And I'm sort of interested in everything? The more impossible, the better. Although I'll probably try to master all the basics first (thanks for the tip about temporal theory & navigation) - I would definitely welcome ANYTHING you could give me.
Re. Paul Atredies then so much yes. Which is one reason I want to learn as much as I can - if I can anticipate things, I can be prepared and not be caught out.

Given the appropriate equipment, I can play time threads like a harp. It was an ancient lost art in my childhood. Now that Gallifrey is gone. *frowns *
39 - How did you recreate the planetary matrix? I know of no extant exemplars in the galaxy for most of the flora and fauna.
I have a lot to teach. I can tell you what references to ask Sexy for in her library.
Be your own man. That's the best advice I can give.

And oh, playing time like a harp... *is insanely jealous*
Ah. Well now. This is what makes part of the business with Allison so, well, ironic. She was so impossibly impressed by the planet thing, when in reality it's yet to be anything like what is should/can/will be. (Darn English is a limited language. I'm sure you know what I mean.) Currently it's not much more than your standard basic terraformed planet, where I've done my best (through trial and error and ancient information & memories) to recreate a world that looks like Gallifrey. (Not even started on animal life yet...) It'll probably take me a century or two before it's anything resembling Gallifrey as a Gallifreyan would see it. (Saying 'Honestly, this is nothing' really didn't help though... *sigh*)
And oooh, gimme gimme gimme! Sexy is delightful, but as peculiar as the Doctor. Anything you can teach me, bring it!
Re. best advice - I think that's been my motto as far back as I can remember. Everyone projects onto me, and I hate it. Which is one reason for cobbling together a planet when I was just a teenager. I just want to be left alone...
ETA: Do you want to start a new thread? This one seems to be vanishing off the page.
no subject
Your resonance should be similar to mine but feels more gold. If I can isolate your essence....
[Pondering logistics]
Well, I can promise you one thing. I will try to establish bettercontact. Best I can figure out, you are a half sibling ....in another reality.
English, and most languages of non-time aware species, are very limited. However, you rarely want to have to use the stabilized-past-future-imperfect tense of a verb .... unless your are describing a disaster of Master/Doctor proportions.
Alex, you sound like you're doing just fine. Follow Jack's heart. The Doctor's enthusiasm. And, Father's determination. Your own search for the truth will guide you.
