Doctor Who.

I've read a few very interesting posts, and two of them (by [livejournal.com profile] scarlettgirl and [livejournal.com profile] asta77) both made the point that they didn't like the forced separation between Rose and The Doctor, and that they would rather have seen Rose make the choice to leave herself.

Now I can see how that would obviously be healthier for her and leave her with less issues, but as far as I can see it would never have happened. The thing is, Rose doesn't have any particular skills or responsibilities. There is no place where she could be more needed. Her 'talent' is The Doctor. Her 'skill' is loving him and helping him. (ETA2: [livejournal.com profile] fer1213 has formulated this so much better in her comment. Make sure you read it!) She can't do that when she's not with him, so she will never leave. She tells her mother this and she tells The Doctor this, when he tries to send her back. There is a bit of a parallel to Buffy/Angel here, in that he (several times) tries to make a big executive decision to keep her safe and give her a normal life. But Rose won't stand for it. She has no Slayer duties keeping her from running back to her love, no re-writing of history that'll make her forget. And - The Doctor accepts her choice, accepts that she's willing to give up everything to stay with him.

But of course we still get the heart-breaking split and the tearful goodbye. And Rose is left without her love.

Now I don't think she'll sit around crying for the rest of her life, or find that every man is so much less than The Doctor and end up like Sarah Jane. I don't think she'll marry Mickey either. I think that one day, maybe down the pub or out with friends she'll meet a guy. And he'll be funny and nice and have a slow smile that she really likes. And as time passes she'll spend more and more time with him, telling him all about the fantastical adventures she had and finding that his stories are just as fascinating, like when he tells her about the time he had his wallet stolen in Paris or when his grandma was a movie actress. And one day she'll realise that when she holds his hand the earth stands still, and she'll finally understand what this new adventure is all about.

They'll name their children after all the wonderful heroes she's met, except for one of the girls which will be named after his grandma. And they'll live happily ever after and have an old policebox in the garden for the children to play in. :)

And that's how I see it!

ETA: Please pardon any weird writing etc. I have a cold that's decided to kill most of my brain functions!
