A few thoughts on Geraldine Jupiter (What Darcy calls Veronica Mars - he likes it though!)

So the VM fandom kinda imploded, huh? I don't know why and I don't care. It's nice to be me. :)

Have been watching VM recently (::smooches to [livejournal.com profile] marsterslady again::) and have been enjoying it very much. But I'm easy that way - I'm like Juliet: "I shall look to like, if looking liking moves."

Have only watched 12 episodes, so DON"T SPOIL ME!!!!

I think the show could be summed up as 'pretty, but gritty.' Or maybe the other way round. I like the stories and the overall arch and Veronica is very good heroine. Nothing much like Buffy, except she's blonde and in High School.
(I could write a whole essay on the subject, but funnily enough I don't have the time...)

I'm beginning to see where all the Logan love comes from, as well as the Logan/Veronica shipping, but to be honest I'm not too bothered about any ships. Actually almost all relationships seem to happen off-screen: 'Here's Troy. He's nice and Veronica likes him. Now they're dating! Oh and now he's a two-timing, drug-trafficking bastard.' The way some characters are not fleshed out is probably my main grumbling point. Wallace is sort of Tara at the moment - 'he's really nice and Veronica likes him.' And that's really all I know about him. But I'm sure he'll get an episode sooner or later.

I don't really have time for much more, except to say: "Why did no one ever mention Weevil???" I think I need a Weevil icon! Seriously. (*So* much more Spike-like than Logan! And Logan is cute, but Weevil is hot. Have I alienated enough people yet?)

Must run, I shouldn't be here!

I'm not interested in VM as a fandom, but I enjoyed the first series. Why I liked it was because VM herself is like a total Mary-Sue character (and I love convincing Mary-Sue characters) - there isn't anything she can't do with a laptop, mobile phone and a hidden microphone and camera. Sheesh, the FBI should hire her immediately *g*

Go VM go - lol!

VM fandom imploded? Why?

I'm curious as well -- I've watched the fandom from afar, perfectly happy not to go near some of the people who gave my heartburn in Buffy fandom.

I think a lot of people declared the last episode to air in the US to be a betrayal of everything they hold holy, and then some people had the audacity to say they liked it, and they started ripping into each other like a pack of rabid wolverines? Or something. Having seen the episode in question, I am mystified as to why it was a big deal at all.

I like the show, but I keep the fandom at ten-foot-pole distance at all times, because who needs a replay of all that was the nastiest of Buffy fandom?

That pretty much turned me off of the show period. I know so many people in VM fandom who like to blame everything they don't like on Joss and Marti (?). It's bizarre. Rob Thomas has said before that he never even watched Buffy, but somehow, people still think he's taking cues from the evil Whedonites. *sighs* Whatever.

I like Weevil, but quite frankly his looks do nothing for me. I wasn't too taken by JM at first either, but as Spike progressed through the seasons I started finding the character attractive. Let's just say that I'm a whole season ahead of you and that hasn't happened for me with Weevil yet.

Marshall is sort of Tara at the moment
Marshall? Are you watching Alias simultaneously? I'm just going to assume you mean Wallace and stop trying to think of a Marshall that was on the show. =)

I could ship Weevil/Logan, if I enjoyed slash. LOL I adore Weevil. Eyelashes to die for and a grudgin respect for Veronica and what she is trying to do. He's complex and adorable and I love him. There are lots of Weevil icons out there in the icon communities.

Just ignore the imploding fandom. It all stems from Twop (what else is new?) I still love the show, flaws and all. No TV show is going to be written perfectly or please everyone. It's silly to expect it. VM is good TV.

VM fandom imploded? Geez, I miss all the good kerfuffles!

Ahh! I'm not really a VM watcher (I don't tend to do well with shows where you can't miss an episode) but it's nice to know what everyone's so up in arms about this morning!

I'm a Weevil lover too! :) You can use this icon if you want - [livejournal.com profile] awmp made it.

I enjoy Veronica Mars a lot, especially because, as you point out, there are a multitude of interesting relationships (not just romantic ones) playing out. It takes a while for the show to flesh out the supporting characters, but it does so well, eventually.

Aww, you've gotten to see the first 12. So maybe one day you'll get to know what on earth I'm talking about all the time? Hehe. I do wish I had more time to post about Buffy...

And you've managed to stay away from spoilers all this time? Wow, that's impressive.

Weevil is awesome and definitely does not get as much love as he should, especially from the writers. Weevil needs more storylines!

Truthfully, the show really didn't insanely grab me until I did a rewatch somewhere in the middle of the season. The first half is abit slow in comparision to the second, though I have since developed a huge affection for the earlier eps. It almost seems like an acquired taste thing. Love goes with rewatch. Although I'm sure it's different for everyone. Just glad to hear you're enjoying yourself! ;) And Darcy likes it too! Fun!

VM is no Buffy, but Rob Thomas does like to take chances the way Joss does, and I respect that. Sometime the show is absolutely brilliant; other times it falls flat on its face. My main complaint is that it tries to juggle too many arcs using too many characters. One of the ongoing mysteries right now involves members of Weevil's gang (I hope that isn't too spoilery for you). None of them are on the screen long enough for me to keep track of who is who, so I have very little emotional investment in their story.

But that said, I do hope you keep watching!
