Thanks for linking to that intelligent look at hisorical marraige. I wonder if it was the same at the bottom of the social ladder where there was little/no property/wealth to bargain for.

Or maybe having less property, it was even more important to marry for what little money there was?

Thank you for the recs! Goodness, after weeks of stormy debate, it was rather refreshing to read a literary take on that issue…
(To be fair, it's also refreshing because it's arguing the British POV over the issue. In France marriage is automatically linked to access to adoption, and that's mostly what's been causing such a terrible mess. *sigh* It was good to be reminded that marriage is about LOVE.)
