I had not realized there had never been a pope who took the name Francis. Cool bit of trivia. : )

I'm going to try and be hopeful as well. I learned his undergrad degree was in Chemistry, which was actually just as responsible for my mood as the news about how he seems to champion the marginalized.

I am thoroughly surprised that they actually elected a South American pope - good for them! And the name 'Francis' is a good sign. Although his relationship with the dictatorship seems to have been overly friendly :((( and he's opposed access to contraceptives :( I am curious to see what will happen.
