Because my brain is weirder than yours!
This all began yesterday when I was unfortunate enough to see a fight between an Atheist and a Christian. What struck me most was that neither was a good representative for their viewpoint - mostly they just came across as quarrelsome and angry. Like Spuffies and Bangels shooting at each other on fandom_wank.
Now from that stray little thought came the notion of 'What if religions were fandoms/ships?' And off my brain went...
So - going with what I know best, I'll make the Buffyverse Christianity. To sub-divide, Spuffies are Catholics and Bangels are Protestants (and don't try to argue otherwise, OK?). The Orthodox/Eastern Churches can be Fanged Four. Umm, running out of ideas now - what ship would be suitable for Baptists? Pentecostals? The Salvation Army?
Muslims could be Harry Potter fans.
Atheists like documentaries (and maybe Harry Dresden as read by JM). ;)
And since Jehovah's Witnesses were what started this thing, they can be 'The Mountain'! Light hearted, remember?
So anyone have any ideas? Could Mormons be Smallville? And what about Hinduism and Buddhism?
(Do you think this qualifies as 'Weirdest post ever?' ::presses 'update' with trepidation::)

Oh, that one's gonna get me in trouble isn't it?
Willow/Tara can be the Pentecostals. *g*

Heee! Well, we can say Baptist in the Dubya way, that should keep the flames away! (He is baptist isn't he?)
Willow/Tara can be the Pentecostals.
Sounds good to me! :)

I think Buddists should be Babylon 5 fans; just seems to fit. And scientologist could be slashers...
::ducks::

I've never seen Babylon 5, but I'll happily take your word. :)
scientologist could be slashers...
Hmmm, not sure slash is weird enough - unless... ::thinks:: How about Clem/Jabba the Hut? ;)

Maybe the scientologist should be Buffy/Giles (shudders!)

My feelings exactly!
And Buffy/Giles is certainly squicky enough, although I'm *trying* to think of a show weird enough. Darcy suggested 'Most Haunted' which is a UK tv-show where they 'investigate' haunted houses and is completely ridiculous!
