Not the Last: Who's Who.
OK, so I've been planning on making this post for AGES and AGES, but since the next chapter [of 'Dating the Cleverest Boy in the World'] is nearing completion (!!!) and the whole 'verse is eating my head to a degree you wouldn't believe (hey I know where it's all going! *dances*), I thought I'd pull myself together & actually write all this down. Esp as it's been forever since I last posted, and I'm sure people have probably forgotten all my OCs... (Not that I can blame them. Apologies again for my slowness.)
For those scratching their head, this is my AU 'verse Not the Last (<- index post), centering around the Master's son, born during the Year That Never Was. (What's it like to grow up as the last member of the mightiest species in the universe, with the Master and the Doctor as role models? Answer: You forge your own path.)
Anyways, lists and stuff under the cut, as well as a few photos. If you've ever wondered what Alex looks like, then this is the post for you - I even used one of the pictures to make this icon. \o/ It's a bit rough (will probably update as I get more proficient), but Promethia pointed me towards a programme called Gnu Image Manipulation Programme (GIMP for short - a rather unfortunate acronym, although easy to remember), and I am almost able to sorta maybe use it.
To begin with, a couple of pictures of John Simm & family I found when googling. Aren't they all gorgeous? And more to the point - if you want to know what little Alex looks like, then there you have it. Except of course that he's blonde. :)

I also came across this photo of John Simm from 1993 and it's still making me flail. He's so young! And this is pretty much exactly what Alex looks like during his university years - right down to the denim jacket! (That Allison eventually manages to get rid of. *g*) It's like magic. Except, again, that he's blonde. (As you've probably worked out, this is the image I used for the icon.)

Characters and their place in the Seeker 'verse
Alex's immediate family:
Alexander Saxon (self-chosen Time Lord name: the Seeker) - pragmatic, curious, stubborn, conscientious, lies as easily as he breathes (if he deems it necessary). A little like a 'good' Rani (wants to know *everything*, and especially loves to try the impossible). Born during The Year That Never Was, and remembers it.
Father - the Master. Kept semi-imprisoned by the Doctor. They travel a lot. Named his son 'Alexander the Great', and loves him absolutely.
Mother - Lucy Saxon. Has devoted her life to her son, the rest of the universe can go to hell in a handbasket.
'Uncle' - the Doctor. The Doctor very much acts 'in loco parentis' as Alex's actual parents are in the habit of spoiling him rotten/want him to grow up to rule the universe. The Doctor tries to impart his own moral code. He partially succeeds.
Closest/oldest/Best Friend cum-Older Brother figure - Jack. Jack is basically the only person Alex never lies to, and the keeper of most of his secrets.
Lucy's family:
Lord Cole - Lucy's brother. Known to Alex mostly as 'Uncle George'. Nice, very fond of his sister, but doesn't understand her at all.
Lady Cole - Lucy's sister-in-law, 'Aunt Emily' to Alex. Can't stand Lucy, and by extension Alex. Finds the topic of Harold Saxon hideously embarrassing.
Geoffrey - their son, Alex's cousin. One year older than Alex, and a perfectly normal boy. As time passes, they become something like friends.
The rest of the Cole family - mostly follow Emily's lead, and consider Lucy the black sheep. Are deeply resolved to keep up appearances however. (The Doctor is adamant that Alex spends time with them, as they are actual family. Only later does Alex understand why.)
Alex's friends:
Matt - full name Matthew Gregman. Nice English middle class boy, with a younger sister. Very much the 'straight man' in Alex's circle. Matt is the only one who genuinely embraces the Doctor's influence, and eventually trains to be a doctor & joins Doctors Without Borders. Refuses to accept Alex's live-and-let-live philosophy.
Josh - full name Joshua Levin. Jewish, only child, brought up by his mother and grandmother. Great-grandparents & rest of extended family wiped out during WWII. Very good looking. Studying to be an architect, as he wants to spend his life creating lasting beauty. Jack's protege, and spends his teens dating a never ending stream of pretty people (boys as well as girls).
(Both Matt and Josh met Alex when they all started school, age four, and they're very bright and gifted. Are also not in awe of Alex in any way, not even after they find out who/what he is.)
Alex's & Allison's circle at Cambridge:
Chen - Chinese student. Exceedingly smart, often baffled by British culture. Allison's main 'rival' (in the nicest possible way - but she likes a challenge).
Chelsea - wants to become 'a hot, famous scientist'. Doesn't let her studies get in the way of fashion or a thriving social life.
Mike - Irish and somewhat contrary. The recipient of the annual Google scholarship, but rather immature.
Jamie - bartender at the ADC Theatre Bar whom Josh falls head-over-heels in love with. Very beautiful, but also very reserved and reclusive. Gender neutral. Loves books & poetry. (For more info, read fic! Because there's so much more to hir... Jamie was probably the character that took me the most by surprise.)
Allison's family:
Allison - full name Allison Whitwell. Often called Allie. Second youngest of 5 children, grew up in Leicester. Very bright, is studying astrophysics so she can get involved with something to do with space. Also quite argumentative, and shoots down pretentiousness with deadly accuracy. Appreciates honesty, talent, and hard work.
Allison's mother - sensible, practical and quietly brilliant, having successfully brought up five children. Retired music teacher.
Allison's father - history teacher, historian and ardent feminist. Drives his children somewhat to distraction. Very much 'an ideas man'.
Amanda - Allison's oldest sister. High-flying City lawyer, married to a banker. They have two children (boy and girl, meticulously planned), and are the very definition of 'having it all'.
Ella - Allison's second eldest sister. The opposite of Amanda. Teenage tearaway, flunked out of school, endless series of unsuitable boyfriends. Has now settled down and is married to a police officer. They have two young boys.
Toby - Allison's older brother. Has some kind of Aspergers. Currently lives in Birmingham, designs video games for a living.
Jimmy - Allison's younger brother. 16 years old, loves rugby and annoying his siblings.

I did hope that it might entice a few more readers my way... Mind you, I cherish every single person who reads, since there are so few!
When you want to make a start, just go to the index post and start at the top. They're all stand-alones (and as such should be easy to read in bits), but best read in the right order.
(Today is the first day in what seems like FOREVER that I've had time to do stuff like this. OK, so there were random meta posts that stopped me from going insane, but this I actually had time to write.)
In conclusion - I love my 'verse and all my characters and I want you to know them. ♥ Am fully aware that I need to make some time for reading too. Wish I had an ipad or similar so I could read away from the computer. /random pining
ETA: By the way, where should I start with your stuff? Is there a master post somewhere?
no subject
Gods...wish to know them sooooonnn!! OMG!!
Sure - you can usually find it in my links list, but I'll make it easy on you, lol - everything is categorised by Fandom, then oldest fic is 'first' with newer fic being added in at the bottom.
Anyway...sorry...Masterlist (for elJay - which holds ALL fiction that has been 'published') is here: Livejournal Fiction Masterlist
Hope you find something you enjoy, lovie. Forgive the Angel stuff and SG-1 stuff (if you read them) they are wwaaaayyyyy older and well...they're definitely older, lol!!

I miss writing OCs for Doctor Who... I lost the heart for it after that huge falling out I had over a year ago with the person I squeed about Roda with. Miss writing Alex, too. He was a gem for the muse and the pocket!verse.

And if you're interested elisi's lent me a variation on Alex before to fit in with my old OC.no subject

*hugs you* I can understand that - it rare to find someone you really get along with, and then to fall out... /o\ Yeah, doing something else for a while is probably the best thing.
Miss writing Alex, too. He was a gem for the muse and the pocket!verse.
Aw, thanks. Hope your muse does come back at some point - look at me! My muse was never gone, I just ran off and wrote other stuff & neglected Alex. (And then the muse decided that 'HEY! HE'S IMPORTANT' and omg the stuff I've now got in my head... Tis awesome. :) So never say never, just give it a while. *moar hugs*)

Now there's an idea! I've got it on the Teaspoon (where I do have more than a handful of readers, so really, you should ignore my complaints) - however I've not uploaded to AO3 in forever. I began back when it was cumbersome, and considering the sheer amount of fic I have, I lost the heart. Might go back and put up Not the Last. THANK YOU!
Gods...wish to know them sooooonnn!! OMG!!
You know the really crazy thing - I don't think of Alex as an OC. He's that permanent of a fixture in my head, and his story is so long and complex that I forget he isn't real and that *I* created him... Which I why I want to you to know him, obviously. :)

I was sure it was there somewhere, but I thought if there were any shortcuts, I might as well ask. *g*

Hey, I loves Angel, I do. <3

that you're free to use.no subject
I'll see if anything pops up. Mind you, I'm keeping track of that much story that I'm forever worried I'll forget something and screw up my own 'verse. *g* That said, I don't do much with his second regeneration (ginger, very focussed) - leave it with me, and you never know...

no subject
Actually - in that regeneration his big project is to build a Matrix like the Time Lords had (this goes wrong eventually, and the explosion kills him, which is why he only has that body for about 50 years), but in the pocketverse where he co-exists with Roda he could very well ask her for help/insights - could you do something with that starting point? (I can give you more info on where he's at, if you think you might want to do something with that.)
no subject
And yes, I'll let you know when I'm done and I'll read your fics based off of his character!
*Happy!Hugs!*

LOL!! I have a character like that. I'm thinking he shouldn't be there for my sequel in an SPN fic, but he might try to show up anyway. And I usually don't DO OCs!! Fate is trying to have a funny on me!
Hope you do enjoy anything you read *chews nails* lemme know if something sucks. Arrghhh...

edit: I need some icons for OCs again, heh... Maybe I should write up the details of my pocket!verse too - I reckon the only fics I'm not retconning for now with Roda in them are the ones I put on AO3. Change is good! I'm going through enough of them this month.
edit: Also did you ever read a fic I wrote of Roda offering Alex lessons about Gallifrey? If not, I just found it on my pc. Put it on AO3 here.

Aaaaaaand now I'm remembering why I stopped uploading stuff. *kicks AO3 solidly* Am VERY VERY MUCH looking forward to when it becomes as simple as the Teaspoon. Even Twisting the Hellmouth is a doddle comparatively. *grumbles*
However I have started, and here's the series link: Not the Last. Have only uploaded the very first part so far (only 6 chapters), but will try to get to the rest. Suppose I ought to put My Immortal up too... *deep sigh*

Oh he shaped the whole AU around him... He started out as something I used to explore how the Doctor/Master dynamic could shift, and then one day - seemingly out of nowhere - he suddenly became 3 dimensional and real. I can point to the very place where it happened. I've never experienced anything like it. *smiles happily* And then there were more, and I end up writing posts like this one trying to contain them all. /o\ Yeah, I hear you on fate.
Hope you do enjoy anything you read *chews nails* lemme know if something sucks. Arrghhh...
It'll probably be next weekend before I have time to sit down and properly read, but I've got you bookmarked now! And I loved your Jack & Eleventy, so I shouldn't worry. :)
ETA: Could I ask one favour though? Would you mind commenting on LJ rather than AO3? I much prefer chatting here... (Presuming you have anything to say once you find the time to read. *g*)

See I remembered this, and it all slotted together. :)
Yep! Feel free to send me some notes. Might be able to write it on my flight tomorrow. *glee* OC writing! Woo!
Will send you the Cliffs Notes.

Enjoy! Editing is goo - usually I'm too lazy, although I have edited some stuff in the Seeker 'verse.

♥ LJ is just the best for talking. And allll the chapters are in my memories, so they should be easy to find. (Here.)
