It seems like every election cycle we have at least one politician who's in it for the entertainment value. This year it's... well, most of the republican contenders. Though in fairness to the democrats I suspect the only reason they've avoided trouble so far is that no one's paying them much attention at the moment.
I did not post the second one on facebook, I'd never hear the end of it. But it's a thing of beauty!

Maybe it's just that I'm waxing sentimental because I made my drinking game every time Sawyer speaks (and she won't shut up so I'm about 5 minutes from a crying jag. I kid I kid.) but can you imagine what it must feel like to be a Republican - a seriously life long and earnest Republican - right now? Watching this.
This is it. That is it. That's all that showed up.
Merry Christmas GOP.
Though in fairness to the democrats I suspect the only reason they've avoided trouble so far is that no one's paying them much attention at the moment. *umms and ahhs* Weeeeell, unless Michael Moore decides to run, you just don't get the same level of crazy with Democrats...

You're so niave-- it's cute! The Dems typically bring just as much crazy to the table as the GOP, though in fairness the GOP have been outdoing themselves of late. Maybe it's just not well publicized in England?
IMO the bottom line is that politicians are politicians are politicians. Even my personal hero Mark Hatfield (My senator growing up) had feet of clay. When a popular governor vanishes from public life it'll likely be because he's sleeping with the 13 year old babysitter.
Or maybe I'm just a little cynical...
BTW did you see the video I linked to last night? I think you'd like it!
ETA to emphasize that it Mark Hatfeild was implicated in tuition scam I don't actually completely understand. The governor that was sleeping with the 13 year old babysitter was Neil Goldschmit.

Maybe it's just not well publicized in England? Well I've only been following along since 2008, so anything before that is pretty much unknown to me. But after Palin, everything kinda pales, y'know? Over here we'll mock anything American, although considering that even your left-wing guys are right-wing from our perspective, Republicans, generally, seem to come from a different planet. The Dems might be crazy, but at least they're crazy in a way we understand, if that makes sense? Although we're also deeply cynical and don't do the deep commitment that Americans do. That is - we generally believe in certain things and then vote for the party which seems most likely to do what we want. But we don't really like any of them, nor do we expect much. (We have nutcases, but their support is... not so much. And everyone loves ridiculing them.)

That makes sense. We tend to only get coverage of british politics from the mainstream media when it involves the US or a politician who seems to like the US.

And ooooh thank you! That was, indeed, very much worth watching! :)
