Fire pretty.

Love Bonfire Night.

There is something about being outside on a cold autumn evening, with your face warm because of the fire and your back getting chilly, whilst LOUD fireworks are going off at random intervals, and you have a drink in your hand and are full of tea (as in dinner) and parkin and toffee apples and other goodies, chatting with family and friends, whilst children wave sparklers around, and generally just having a nice time which is exactly what life is all about.

I remember when I was very little going to a firework display in my pyjamas with my coat and wellies over the top, and there's something about Bonfire Night that still feels like a giant pyjama party. The collective ooohing and aaaahing, and cake, and hot drinks, and pretty lights, and loud bangs, and sparklers! There's a kind of big warm snuggliness to it, which I don't suppose is what Guy Fawkes was aiming for at all. :)

Where are you? I lived in Pinner, Middlesex for a year.

No farmhouse Wensleydale to be had here for love nor money, and the Stilton is usually a bit off the mark either one way or the other. Is that fair? I ask you!

I've never been in the UK for bonfire night, but it sounds a lot like New Year on the Oregon coast. Only, on a beach in that case

And no cue what "parkin" might be but toffee apples rock!

Ooh, that looks good!

And homemade is the best. One thing I miss most about my folks moving to the midwest is their orchard. Apples, pears, cherries, apricots...

Oh, I just got such nostalgia, in the best way possible! This post just made my evening a little better. :)
