elisi: Edwin holding a tiny snowman (DoctorRiver by devilz_haircut)

Recs & meta whilst avoiding DW spoilers.

Am procrastinating, being sleepy and still feeling the effects on my cold. And since my head is FULL OF THE DOCTOR AND RIVER SONG, I shall inflict stuff on you. :) Well as much as I can manage before I fall asleep or forget how to type.

First of all [livejournal.com profile] humansrsuperior's new vid: Tick Tock, Goes the Clock. (Description: Tick tock, goes the clock, even for the Doctor. Spoilers up to - and including! - 6.12) It's like a whole segment of my brain all bundled up into 1.30 minutes...

Also, #1 Crush by Garbage could very well be the MOTHER of all Doctor/River songs. I sincerely hope someone will make a big shiny vid to it after the finale. (Youtube/Lyrics.)

I would die for you
I would kill for you
I would steal for you
I'd do time for you
I would wait for you
I'd make room for you
I'd sail ships for you
To be close to you
To be a part of you
'Cause I believe in you
I believe in you
I would die for you.

(By the way, did no one like part 2 of my fic? Maybe I mislabelled it. It's not fluffy, angsty crack, it's meta-as-fic, trying to explore Doctor/River and their different outlooks, catch-22s, the problems of needing to save people, marriage vows and what they mean - with the Doctor's death quietly ticking away in the background. I just chose to wrap it up in River/Doctor/Marilyn Monroe, which is fluffy and cracky and angsty... *is sad that no one else likes Marilyn* Or maybe my writing is just too weird. That's entirely possible.)

ETA: OK, a little bit of meta regarding the arc this season. Funnily enough semi-inspired by my Angel meta.

Just remember one thing: NO SPOILERS for the finale, OK?

Now the heart of AtS S5 is the fact that Angel decides to take control of his own story. Throughout the show he's been manipulated and screwed around by Wolfram & Hart and The Powers That Be. The way he decides to seize control over his own narrative is a bone of contention in fandom, but there's no doubt something needed to be done, or he'd just be Destiny's whipping boy forever.

ANYWAY. Doctor Who. Can I go back to my review of DoTM?

YOU SEE? I WAS RIGHT! What I didn't know at the time that it was the Silence who had been re-writing the Doctor's story, even creating a new character just for him. Back then I thought that River's timeline had been broken because of the re-write. But it's the other way around: Her existence (the woman who kills the Doctor) is what re-wrote the story. Kovarian & co made a story about an impossible astronaut who would kill the Doctor... and the Doctor and River have to follow the script laid out for them.

So, my 'prediction' (using the term very loosely) for the finale is that the Doctor will take control of his own story again. I don't know HOW, but it'll all be about his role within the narrative I think, drawing on everything he has learned this season. (Not to mention River of course... They're mirrors, two sides of the same coin. Who will change what is going to be interesting to see.)

And now I really am nearly asleep. Any other clever thoughts I had are all gone...

YOU REC'D IT OMG.

You spoil me way too much you do! *SQUISH*

I totes know that Garbage song. Unfortunately I completely associate it with another fandom WOE. But you're right, the lyrics are like, so Eleven/River and perfect for them. I totally want to vid them again once the finale airs. *siiiiiiiiiigh*

THANK YOU FOR THE REC BB. ♥

LOL THE GIF. *blushing like crazy* ♥ *GLOMPS*

That happens. Ah well. I shall just pray that someone else goes for it... (As well as look forward to whatever you come up with!)
Well you never know. I've vidded songs I once associated with other fandoms before. IDK though listening to it now it's kind of dark! EEEE but also totally sexy and sooooooo River/Eleven gawd. Just dunno about having enough footage? :P Well hopefully SOMEONE does it! It'd be awesome. *nods*

I hope I CAN come up with something. And if I do I hope I can vid it. *glares at dumb Vegas and my computer issues*

IS IT TOMORROW YET?!

There is actually a vid already, on youtube, but it's not terribly good... I mean, it's OK, but not clever. And I do so like clever vids. Like yours. Anyway, let's hope SOMEONE makes it.
Well finding good vids on YouTube is rare. -_- It could indeed be a very clever vid for them... Now you're making me want to see it done! :P *sends vibes throughout fandom*

Poor you. I've been following your woes from a distance since I know less than nothing. Here's to everything suddenly working!
Haha no worries I know next to nothing myself, thus the posting in desperation. :P Thanks for the well wishes though!

I loved your story! And have been having computer problems, so sorry about no comment before now. I found it very sad and tender. I keep going back in my mind to the Nine episode in which he says, "Just this once, everybody lives." And why he would insist on saving Marilyn, when it's just one of them too many. I like your idea of him re-taking control of the narrative. VERY curious how that will work out, both in your story and in the show.

I had problems with the ease with which River grew a flesh clone of Marilyn.

I think whatever happens will be largely River's doing... she's the Doctor's storyteller, and ruthless, bloody minded, and unpredictable enough to change causality :D

random thought: if the Doctor turned the humans against the Silence, why are they working together now against him? (scratches head) unintended consequences of what he did in DotM? Is it another ouroboros thing that creates itself?? Agghrksjfd need episode now.

I officially feel bad; I'm sure I love your Eleven/River fic but I've been busy enough I actually hadn't noticed that you wrote it . Plus side fall is here and the next few days are going to be 50 degrees and rainy; good excuse to curl up with some fic!

So, my 'prediction' (using the term very loosely) for the finale is that the Doctor will take control of his own story again.

Intriguing! The fact that he's been so reactive (as opposed to active) this season has been bugging me. (I've been blaming Amy, though I do realize that I'm being unfair. I blame Amy because I find the character grating but I'm aware of the utter irrationality of that thought) I'm still two episodes behind though and catching up is also part of my Rainy Saturday Off Plan!

Damn, that is brilliant. Damn. Love it. Also recalling someone pointing out somewhere that them falling in love almost seems like it could be part of the plan, which is sort of beautifully sick. Not sure what sort of plan that would make it, exactly, but if they were watching River and waiting for her to finish her degree, and with the way Kovarian delivered "your love will surely die" . . . it's like they know what's going on.

One of my friends, I forget who, had the suggestion that it's Rory who will take control. We've had a lot about father's and their relationship with their children this season. What would Rory do to save River?

Me, I'm still looking at the outside possibility that the Doctor really is dead, but he and River have kids somewhere.

However, the episode title makes me nervous. It's too obvious, therefore I expect them to subvert that.
