Addendum to LKH meta.
I've changed my mind on one point.
So, the finale is called 'The Wedding of River Song'.
Well then.
a) The Doctor promised Mels to marry her, so technically he's already proposed, (plus, of course, there's their conversation at the end of TBB, so he's actually proposed twice!) and
b) "There's only one reason I would ever tell anyone my name. There's only one time I could..." What if it's all to do with getting married? The way she says 'Spoilers' when he brings up the subject doesn't seem to indicate 'I was there when you died', but something nice.
So. My initial thought when he whispered in River's ear was 'Tell her that I love her'. I'm going back to that, unless proven otherwise, since getting married would fulfill both 'could' and 'would'.
ETA: Here, have some caps:

And then he dies... And I think that watching him, with this message in her mind, she begins to understand that nothing exists in a vacuum. Killing the Doctor doesn't end with his death. Somewhere, out there, is a woman who has now lost the man she loves, and this obviously never occurred to Melody - the fact that actions have consequences reaching beyond the people closest to her. If the first chink in her armour comes when the Doctor refuses to give up and begs for her help (which she gives), then the second comes here. The third... is knowing that it's herself she has caused grief to.
I shall end with a final Buffy quote...
Love is pain, and the Slayer forges strength from pain. Love... give... forgive. Risk the pain, it is your nature. Love will bring you to your gift.

This makes me happy. Er, the amount, I mean (yay moar meta!), not that it's blending together.

And the meta is all self-inflicted. Am glad it's proving to be a good thing for others. :)
