(And part of me wants the three weeks to go really quickly. The other part of me - the one that's writing meta - wants another six! SO MUCH THERE! /o\)
Omg write. I need meta like oxygen. I haven't had any interesting insights in forever, but I'm flailing over how the tiny insignificant details only a weirdo like me pays any attention to have become more interesting after The Reveal, like the apple in River's cell.
And I'm writing whenever I have some time. The problem being that EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED and I need three dimensional diagrams to illustrate my thoughts...
Help me understand something, please? How is it that I can interpret every single damn thing on this show in relation to River and yet still somehow manage to massively underestimate the extent to which it is, in fact, all. about. her?
What actually makes Moffat a bastard is that he always tells you what he's going to do and then manages to trick you with it anyway. MOFFAT, YOU SKUNK. YOU MADE EVERYTHING ABOUT RIVER SONG AND THE ONLY THING YOU DID TO PREPARE US FOR IT WAS TO BROADCAST THIS FACT CLEARLY FOR THREE YEARS AHEAD OF TIME! The nerve.
It's because we're used to writers lying to us. (See Post-Traumatic Joss Syndrome.) Also it's because in this instance he's doing everything backwards. He killed River off right at the beginning and we all went 'Um, OK... And who was she?' And now? Now it hurts. It's fiendishly clever. And we can't ask him to change it, because everything else builds on it.
ETA: Watched 'Tenth Doctor, the Musical' yesterday with Impish Girl, and the River part is just her saying 'Hello Sweetie'... and oh, my heart!
Or used to writers not planning anything, as the case may be.
And we can't ask him to change it, because everything else builds on it. My greatest lingering fear vis a vis River is that Moffat really will change time and unwrite her. It grows increasingly unlikely as we go along and the rational part of my brain doesn't believe it, but a part of me can't quite shake the anxiety that he'll let us learn just enough to give us a heartbreakingly complete picture of everything that *was* and then it will all never have existed. It would be like Joss and Rusty had angst babies and created the angst demon from hell that killed television forever, and it would have Steven Moffat's face!
Well in one of the Confidentials (probably AGMGTW) he talked about how he could easily write River forever and how there were SO MANY MORE SECRETS and almost rubbing his hands together, so no, I don't think he'll undo her. (Yes time can be rewritten, but not all of it.)
He's also done too much work to make her fit as a long-term fixture of the show for it to make any sense not to keep her as such . . . but this is why they are gnawing, irrational fears *fidgets*
Did you really?!? Hahahahahaha! I just know how you feel about oranges and wanted to cheer you : ) I'll take freaking you out as a bonus, though!
I haven't really even thought about DW all that much for the last 3 months, and now suddenly, RE-OBSESSED. AAAAH. Me toooooo! I'm so happy to care about this show again *wiggles around in Who-contentment*
I think my brain needed that break. I was burnt out by the anticipation and the revelations and the what not of the first half. And if I'd been this excited for the entire three months, I would have had a stroke. Not thinking about it seems to have made time go faster, now it's closer and I'm excited the anticipation is TORTURE.
