You have to watch this vid! Because the poor heroes are SAD and we have to feel sorry for them...

The Price by thingswithwings. Summary: Mr Billowy Coat King of Pain.

She also wrote brilliant meta that you should go read. Link in the post. Warning: You might never want to watch TV or movies again...

(It's a multi-fandom vid, but I'm using a Ten icon since he is the Lonely Angel Storm at the Oncoming Fire of the Universe, and the KING of man!pain. Although the SPN boys are better at crying, I'll give them that.)

Lonely Angel Storm at the Oncoming Fire of the Universe

That made me grin. :) And thanks for the rec. My internet isn't fast enough to watch the vid, but I really enjoyed the meta.

Might I say how refreshing I find all your links and takes on the episodes? I feel like there are so few people on my f-list who enjoy both RTD and Moffat-era Who. Whenever I see a post of yours, I know there will be love and appreciation for both. When I finally get the chance to watch S6, I will definitely go back through all your posts on it.

I think her name is Gwen Stacy, btw.

Oh wow. Thank you for reccing this--it's incredible and it's giving me all sorts of thinky thoughts about my own writing and reactions to various shows and the degree to which I've internalized the 'it's all about the white dude' cultural perspective.

Thank you.

That meta is brilliant and fascinating and thought-provoking.

I'm torn, though.

I am female. And watching Ten in "The Runaway Bride" and "The Waters of Mars" literally saved my life this spring. And when I say literally, I mean literally.

I can't bring myself to condemn manpain when identifying with it is the reason I am still here.

Does that make me a bad feminist? Maybe. I don't know.

(I wrote a post on these issues here:

when it came to a clip of Jack from CoE I couldn't help but flinching. Because what he has to do is so horrific that it seems to fall out of the realm of the issue... Which is of course silly (and there's a rant in the comments about how he was only given a family for them to suffer and him to angst over), and while I can see that, and understand the anger, then what CoE does in the ways it addresses humanity and monstrousness etc is just... incredible. Plus CoE is brilliant when it comes to female characters. So yes, through the very specific lens of manpain Jack absolutely earns his place in that vid. But... That's not the whole story.

Yes.
