The results of my thinking so far.

The Doctor's Wife in one word: Effulgent.

Which also perfectly describes this stunning wallpaper from said episode by the talented [livejournal.com profile] sueworld2003.

I can't stop watching it! So many wonderful moments.

That is one gorgeous wallpaper. I may actually change my desktop from a River background (which I've had since two days after Christmas).

Ditto.

Plus, the TARDIS and River are obviously very find of each other, so I don't think River would mind you swapping.

It's just River's one of my favorite characters, and an inspiration. But this wallpaper…

I love the way you can ship everyone/everyone on this show!)

Eh. We'll just have to agree to disagree. :) Even after this episode, I'm still not a romantic and/or sexual Doctor/TARDIS shipper, and never will be. (I find it squicky. They're just too different physically and consciousness-wise.) But I cannot, never have, and never will, deny they love each other. But back to the point: River and the TARDIS clearly have a bond.

I've been thinking about this-- romantic doesn't squick me. It just seems to be limiting their relationship, which is something that shouldn't happen. Sexual remains squicky.

(I mean, the Doctor/Rose shippers are legion, and the two of them never even kiss properly...)
*snickers* Absolutely true. (And I'm saying this as a Rose/Doctor shipper, albiet one who doesn't think their relationship is entirely healthy. But I'm not getting into that here.)

No problems about the edits. I don't turn on my computer until I've eaten breakfast for the same reason.

Esp since I'm someone who tends to ship couples who - if they had to rely on romance - would never get anywhere.

*laughs* Doctor/River is definitely a no-go in that, and Doctor/Master a thousand times more. Romance, no matter what some people think, is not the be-all and end-all in relationships. There has to be more to it than that.

You've seen Blackout, right? I love it too much for words. And I'm not really a Doctor/Rose shipper. I mean I like them (and I've got the fic to prove it! *g*), but I just don't go for that kind of dynamic.

No, I haven't! I could honestly write a post on why I ship Doctor/Rose, why it became unhealthy, and why I don't read 99% of shipfic (it ignores or brushes over the problems). But no one would read it, and secondly, I don't really feel like stirring up a wankstorm. I honestly prefer Doctor/River. So much more interesting and equal.

I watched it! Absolutely fabulous and heartwrenching. (Made worse because while I was waiting for the vid to load, I turned on BBC America just in time to catch River's "watch us run" speech.) People who criticize from a place of love often, I think, do it the best simply because they care enough to not gloss over the problems. (And obviously dislike-fueled crit more often than not reads as bashing.)

That's like a double whammy of heartache.

It was. I had to watch a happy vid immediately after. (And it was the first time I'd seen that speech since I'd watched the episode nine months ago, and I hadn't planned on a rewatch anytime soon.)

Two people who are perfectly happy aren't really fantastically exciting to watch...

Yup.

Ooooh yes. It can work if it's pure meta, like Marble House f.ex. - actually vids on the whole work a lot better for me as a critical tool, as opposed to anything else.

I just tend to avoid crit because I never know where someone is coming from. And I don't watch vids often-- I can't do it on my personal computer; I have to use the family's shared one-- so I don't even really know how to "read" vids.
