A thought while I was tidying the children's bedroom:

Pretty much all of 'Return of the King' is an embodiment of 'If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.'

Although of course it applies best to the last stand at the Black Gate.

Now leaving again after that demonstration of relating one fandom to another.

It's an excellent thought that reveals much of why these two fandoms touch people. Those who fight when all hope is gone are the greatest of heroes.

When I was at Slayage, someone I admire gave a paper about theology in Angel and those who manage to fight on when even faith has deserted them. It was a very moving discussion, with people relating the final episode to the battles of cancer survivors and holocaust victims. It was a sincere, thoughtful crowd, and we certainly didn't feel like we were trivializing anything.

I think all good art (which includes film & TV) should say something about life and truth. And it *should* be discussed! The reason we love these shows so much is that they have something in them that we respond and react to. (Sorry I'm sleepy or I'd try to be clever!)
