Did you vote?

If I had needed a further excuse to NEVER vote for the Tories, this story would have done it. (Torchwood star John Barrowman is stunned and dismayed by British Prime Minister David Cameron's apparent support for a ban on showing same-sex kissing on U.K. television outside late-night "adult" viewing hours.)

For starters, they'd have to ban re-runs of Doctor Who...

I have no problem with banning such kisses until 9p.m. - provided they ban them between heterosexual couples as well.

After all it's supposed to be about the premature sexualisation of children, and most of them are going to be sexualised prematurely into heterosexuals!

A few years of Tory government is, sadly, the thing most likely to do that.

I know from my daughter and her university friends, from fairly mixed backgrounds, that how they voted in the last UK election was based on only one main thing 'Anything but Labour!'

Why? Because they could only really remember life under Labour; she was 9 in 1997. So they begin to think 'Things could be better than this - there must be some other way that would be better... We'll vote for whoever isn't the current lot.'

So, sadly, a few years of Tory rule is the most likely thing to put them off!

That's ridiculous for so many reasons. Also, that's one of my favorite scenes from new who, simply because we see the Doctor get kissed by a man (though could it be more chaste?). Still, out of all the times the Doctor has saved people's lives and been grabbed by a new friend and kissed, it's rather ridiculous that some new guy friend whose life he just saved hasn't grabbed him and kissed him. In fact, I think I am going to put that on my prompt list. 'Eleven gets kissed by man he's saved." Hopefully in front of River (who doesn't bat an eye), Amy (who tries to take a picture with her camera phone), and Rory (who starts to understand the Doctor's perspective on the whole Amy-kiss thing, considering the Doctor's own wife's behavior).

It's actually really upsetting that so many people in the world seem to believe that being exposed to the LGBT community is like being exposed to the drug community. It's so ridiculous. We are good citizens. We are good people.

As soon as I'm done with finals and term papers and the gift-stories I owe people, I am going to go on a DW-fanfic-writing-BINGE! And this will be one of my first stories. I plan to write a whole bunch of happy stories because life has been too damn sad with news like above, one of my foster kittens dying yesterday (hopefully we won't lose more), and all the other freaking depressing things popping up recently. So obviously life will be improved with more thank-you-Doctor-boy kissing fic. I think River Song would agree. Because she's awesome. And she'd tell PMs that support this kind of shit that they can eat their own pants.

And here I was thinking people in the UK were a bit more enlightened.

I'm still boggled that the chief executive of the Mothers' Union is a man named Reg.

Okay, he might be a transsexual man who gave birth pre-transition. But I somehow doubt it.

On a more positive note, the Mothers' Union website has a rather angry public statement "explicitly disassociating" themselves from the newspaper reports about this: "The Mothers’ Union’s Campaign is gender inclusive and is therefore, neither targeted towards or against any type of relationship and should not be expressed as such." Hopefully there'll be enough bad publicity about this that Cameron will backpedal hastily and claim he was misquoted or something. :-/

Good lord, can't they fix the economy before they try to outlaw pretty boys kissing? Priorities, people, PRIORITIES.

Oh, for the love of Pete. First Stephen Harper gets re-elected and now this. All prime ministers are fired.
