We can now publicly disclose that we have been experiencing a large-scale DDoS attack the last two days, which has been the reason for the site issues most users have been experiencing. The traffic load has been immense, at many times our normal load level, and the attack is still on-going. We are in constant contact with our providers to mitigate the attack as best as possible. We again apologize for the disruption to LiveJournal usage, and are working to get everything back to normal as soon as we can. Thank you!

I still find that wording to be a bit weird. They can "now publicly disclose"?!?! It's just... odd.

One of the DW maintenance people was saying in the comments on one of their posts that it's generally considered a bad idea to acknowledge a DDoS attack until one has effective counter-measures in place as it's basically giving attention to the attackers as well as letting them know that their attack is working. In this case, though, things got well past the stage where there was any point in putting up a good front.

So, yeah, they're obviously couching their language there, but there's some legitimate reason to be doing so, not just ass-covering.

I wouldn't mind, except I have loads of unanswered comments, and unposted fic. Grrr. But like I said elsewhere, I'm too busy with other stuff to really care.

And yeah, there's a difference between them being stupid, and them being under attack...

Yesterday for a little while I could get in to LJ even see my flist. Couldn't do anything, not post replies, not delete inbox messages, could not access other's LJ fic.

I couldn't get in at all earlier today, or last night. Now I can log in, and get to my inbox. Can't delete anything from my inbox. Can't access flist or other's fic on LJ.

Same here - almost. Can't post, edit or comment or sent messages. And at the moment LJ doesn't open for me - earlier I managed to open my F-List. Almost the only thing that works. *grumbles*

I've been having the same "can't post" problems since Monday. Yesterday it got worse with, initially, increased difficulty in evening opening LJ and, finally, impossibility. (I'm rather certain the previous sentence is ungrammatical ....) I'm back to being able to coax LJ to show up, but it's remarkably slow, and still unable to post. No, strike that; now I think we're looking at "impossibility" again. Sigh.

And, as others have mentioned? Your icon, it is love.

Yeah, LJ is pretty much dead for me too. I tried to load my flist and then just gave up.

Ah well, this too shall pass...

And - like I've said elsewhere - it's from 2005. (You remember?) Funny how some things never change.
