"A great film is something you can take a brief holiday in; a [funny] television series, with proper character development, is something you can live in."
Tom Cox, The Sunday Times Culture Magazine, 15th Apr. 2007

I moved into the Buffy-verse and never left. Except then the Whoniverse arrived next door and I knocked the wall through...

Quotes

I think it’s always important for academics to study popular culture, even if the thing they are studying is idiotic. If it’s successful or made a dent in culture, then it is worthy of study to find out why. ‘Buffy,’ on the other hand is, I hope, not idiotic. We think very carefully about what we’re trying to say emotionally, politically, and even philosophically while we’re writing it. The process of breaking a story involves the writers and myself, so a lot of different influences, prejudices, and ideas get rolled up into it. So it really is, apart from being a big pop culture phenom, something that is deeply layered textually episode by episode.
Joss Whedon

Maybe this isn't new but it is my view: Doctor Who is a fairy tale – not sci-fi, not fantasy but properly a fairy tale. And I don't mean Disney-style where the endings are changed and everyone lives. Doctor Who is how we warn our children that there are people in the world who want to eat them.
Steven Moffat

Fandom stuff

Fic Masterlist

Meta Masterlist

I write a lot - meta, fic, random rambling. A canon and continuity whore, I generally prize good characterisation over solid plotting, but nothing makes me happier than getting both. And I tend to ship snarky, difficult couples, rather than True Love ones.

I started out as a great (obsessive) fan of BtVS/AtS, and still love that 'verse to pieces even though it's no longer my primary fandom. That honour goes to Doctor Who and Torchwood, and anyone who says you can't fall in love twice is a liar. :)

RL stuff

I'm a happily married stay-at-home-mum, who loves writing and art. And I'm a Christian. One day I'll write meta on fannishness and faith and how they're connected and yet different (fiction as a reflection of truth etc). Until then, this quote will do:

From 'The Blue Cross' by G.K. Chesterton:
"But, as a matter of fact, another part of my trade, too, made me sure you weren't a priest."
"What?" asked the thief, almost gaping.
"You attacked reason," said Father Brown. "It's bad theology."

Friending

Please drop me a line if you friend me! /hopelessly curious (I'm afraid I don't friend back automatically because my flist is getting far too big, but I love talking to people so don't be shy.)
