Firstly, then I am of course OVER THE MOON that Eleven made it to the finale!!!

(Obligatory VOTE ELEVEN!!! Esp because he's behind...)

But, the whole thing has now turned into a huge love fest, and DW fans are watching (or going to watch) Community and Community fans are curious about DW (one person mainlined S5 in 2 days!) Plus of course all the other shows. Fandom is being AWESOME and NOT BITCHY and everyone loves the nice guys!

So basically, EVERYONE'S A WINNER! \o/

(And there is already comment fic: Troy Barnes as Eleven's newest companion.)

I am something of a champion TV marathoner, and that makes even me dizzy.

I mainlined the entire 1-4 series in about 3-4 days... but I barely absorbed any of it.

Dear lord--so you watched, like, a season a day? My head hurts on your behalf. I forget exactly how long it took me to watch 1-4. Might've been two weeks. I know I'd seen the Library episodes and managed to write meta *before* the Angels episodes aired, but I forget if that was because I'd watched them in order or if I'd picked up through the fandom grapevine that I should be sure to see them ahead of time.

But season five is just so dense. I don't just mean in an "oh, you can't have gotten all the layers way"--a "what . . . what did I just watch?!?!?! I feel like my brain's been run over" kind of way.

Oddly I think this is why it captured my attention/memory so much better than series 1-4. People will talk about scenes they love from series 1-4, and I'll have -no- idea what they're talking about, even if I've seen the episode a bunch of times. I've seen EoT maybe 5-6 times and I remember about 5% of it.

But the layers and the density of series 5 FORCES me to pay attention and analyse it over and over and over, so much so that I can now talk along with the characters because I've memorized everything they say. There's something about Moffat's writing that's puzzle-like, but not in an obvious way, and it's driving me mental, in a kind of good way. I think.

I always loved poetry because you can treat a poem like a puzzle. Everything matters on all the levels: literal meaning, symbolic meaning, allusions, associations, sounds, the rhythm, the relation of each part to whole, the structure of it all, the configuration on the page . . . the sheer density of information you can encode in a poem is just awesome. There is NO WAY to read poetry passively.

I could see that, if you didn't have much else to do. I just did the math--it's something like 17 hours worth of show.

Season five in two days . . . totally doable from a time perspective. But I'm having a hard time imagining the state it would leave your brain in O_o

You know, I'd never be able to do the whole marathonning thing, quite simply because of my family. Not that I mind, since I have a feeling my brain might keel over and faint, but... it's just one of those things that is just outside my realm of experience.

The marathon metaphor is apt--you do have to build up stamina for it. And it leaves you drained and exhilarated all at the same time.

I showed a bunch of family members all of season five over a long weekend. It was immediately obvious who was in shape for this sort of thing and who not :)

OTOH, there is that deep-level comprehension you're just never going to get marathoning TV seasons.

My experience of fandom on lj is that, in general, it is far more tolerant and open than anywhere else on the net. Fan forums are so often total cesspools of negativity and cynicism, I'd really like to know why LJ is so different.

This FMM is literally the most fun I've had in fandom in years. SO MUCH POSITIVITY! (Which is I guess what happens when your final two are TROY BARNES and ELEVEN. They are both full of so much joy, it would be a real shame if their campaigns were in any way negative).

Completely. It's like it would be a betrayal of either one for campaigns to get dirty. I mean, they'd obviously love each other!

(I want Troy to win just because it's a great underdog story. But what I REALLY want is for them to tie exactly. Because that would be magical and most accurately reflect my feelings on the situation).

*nods* And it's the perfect finale! I can't think of any other characters that plain nice (other than Annie from Being Human, and she did REALLY WELL TOO!). :)

I spent like two hours last night on March Madness-- and you're totally right. It was a big love-fest All That Is Good in the World. Or at least in fandom! And I love a four; any winner is OK with me!

Also I need to rewatch Veronica Mars. I'd forgotten how much I loved her!
