He's apparently to give a speech quite soon. Unfortunately, it sounds like it will be that he won't seek election but will stay until the September elections... and I don't really think that will fly.

The just popped up LA Times article basically says that the special U.S. envoy sent today to Egypt relayed the message that the it's time to go and that he can't be part of the 'transition' but that the message was blatantly rebuffed.
It's going to really be a tricky thing and it's going to come down to which way the military breaks. If it's to happen, Egyptians are apparently going to have to pry his fingers from the wheel.
