Buffy the Vampire Slayer Race!Swap Cast
~~~
Also I am currently watching the Sontaran episodes (Donna Donna Donna!!!!) and it is... strange watching Ten. I feel myself going 'Aw, but he's so young!' and having a sudden urge to pet him. (Well he's very pettable, full stop. *g*) But it's interesting how much older Eleven comes across, just in the way he behaves.
TOTALLY! But it's *true* - he's so... energetic and bouncy and bright and my heart kinda bleeds for all the horrible things that'll happen to him. Eleven is so much more grownup, so much more likely to be the one offering comfort than needing it. (I'm not putting Ten down, I just like to see the character grow, it's such neat continuity.)
But I agree, Matt does such small and yet wonderful things that adds so much age to his Doctor, it's incredible. ♥
It's just the way he carries himself...
*nods*
First Doctor who's younger than me, and he's the first one who I believe as being that old...
Always fascinating to watch, but . . . *grrrrr*
Heeee! He is though. Well not literally, of course, but he has a bouncy youthfulness to him that Eleven completely lacks. Eleven has a childish joy, the way old people do, but it's a very different thing.
OH DONNA. Eleven does definitely come across as so old, I absolutely adore that Matt Smith is capable of that.
Eleven has become my Doctor and I'm still bitter at Ten for what he did to Donna, so it's been a while since I've watched any of the Ten episodes. But I've been missing Donna and Martha lately, so I'll probably have to revisit....
I couldn't NOT rec it, it's AWESOME!
OH DONNA.
YES DONNA!
It is a wonderful and incredible thing and just MAGIC ACTING!
I don't have a problem with Ten's actions (friends don't let friends burn to death), but I perfectly understand why people do (mind, I mean), and Donna's fate is truly awful. (I wrote fic once - not a fix-it, but the nearest possible thing: Donna's Choice.)
And Martha and Donna are definitely worth watching! :)
10 is adorable, and he angsts so beautifully. But 11 has grown on me, he does play "alien" so well. You're right though, he does play "older" than 10. I noticed the same thing!
She is so awesome and also breaks my heart! ♥
Oh does he ever! Really, he can just stand there and exude angst...
Interesting, isn't it? I remember thinking about Jenny once, after Matt had been announced as the new Doctor, and thinking that now they COULDN'T bring her back, because of the age thing. *laughs* Whenever I picture it now all I can do is imagine all the millions of ways in which he'll be parental and it's too adorable for words. :)
It's not even that I think Ten seems young - and especially not when I go back and watch Five and go, 'WOW, he's so young and innocent' - it's just that Eleven seems really, really old, and Ten... doesn't.
Re. Ten and Eleven it's such a tricky and impossible thing to pin down, but it's definitely there. Even as early as 'The Eleventh Hour' this review was talking about Eleven's aged-ness.
Re. the episodes in question, then it was the scenes with Ten in Rattigan's lab that struck me - he's so bouncy and excited and then he tries to bond with Rattingan over their shared cleverness, but Ten comes across more as someone more clever (and thus far more aware of everything, including the price of that gift) than someone old, imparting his wisdom. Like I say above, Eleven has the childish joy of the old, rather than the excitement of the youthful.
Oh, definitely, yeah - I'll see if I can pull anything out when we get to s5, but he's definitely old, and it's brilliant!
Yes, exactly! And that's why, I think, Luke does save him in the end - because Ten's been proving his 'worthiness' by being like him (young and clever) rather than unlike him (old and wise), and Luke's been lonely.
(And, oops, I should really leave this till you have time.)
Don't I know it! :)
I'm very much looking forward to your thoughts, and yes, it's absolutely brilliant. Like I say in a comment above, I dearly wish we could get Jenny back, because he is so terribly paternal now. ♥
Oooh, now that's a fantastic insight. I think you might be onto something there. Trying to imagine Eleven in that ep, I have a feeling he'd be more 'Well aren't you clever, young man. Crickey, this is all terribly exciting.' and coming across as miles older than Ten, despite the youthful face.
(And, oops, I should really leave this till you have time.)
Pft! My journal, I can never be stopped from rambling here...
No pressure, then?
Oh, I badly want her back! And if we don't get her back, we'll just have to turn to AUs. But then I also want AUs where she travels with Ten and he keeps startling himself with how protective he is.
Um. Is it? Thankyou!
Yes, that's what I was trying to get at exactly - and he'd come off as just a bit patronising/condescending/dismissive in the way that Ten, for once, manages not to, and get Luke offside.
Just be your brilliant self - I believe it comes naturally?
I approve of that AU v. much!
Funny, isn't it? Guess it goes to prove Ten teenage-ness. ;)
Ah, but now people are expecting me to be brilliant, you see, it's rather scary. XD
LOL Yes, I suppose it does.
Ah yes, it is. (I'm currently working on the sequel to a very popular fic, and it's... daunting.) Good luck!
