I was planning on writing some reflections, but am now much too tired. Will have to wait until tomorrow. And the icon has nothing to do with the fic, I just happened to find it a very short while ago and fell in love.
That could be interesting. Right now I'm feeling like if I have to read one more detailed, accurate, factual description, I'm going to cry. *laughs* I hope you enjoy the code breaking then - it's very clever. :)
*salivates* Damn--I'm not sure that one was readily available from the library. I may have to do some planning ahead. Oh do. I think it's my favourite. It's much more of a novel than many of the others (well the story and the whodunnit are all intertwined), and all the themes and ideas are fascinating. Plus - did I mention that it's a love story? A gorgeous, beautiful, difficult love story, that's completely character driven...
ETA: Btw have you seen this? I am FLAILING LIKE MAD!!! gimmegimmegimmenow!!!
*laughs* I hope you enjoy the code breaking then - it's very clever. :) I've gotten there! It *is* really cool. And far more comprehensible than all these strange people who can remember all the details of their day and the times they did things and such. WTF?

ETA: Btw have you seen this? I am FLAILING LIKE MAD!!! gimmegimmegimmenow!!! Lol, I have. Episode seven, eh? That's, what, six months from now? *sighs and tries to be zen about the wait*
I've gotten there! It *is* really cool. And far more comprehensible than all these strange people who can remember all the details of their day and the times they did things and such. WTF? LOL! Well if they didn't there wouldn't be much of a book... Although you're right, the code breaking is nifty (if long).
:-D I started reading it yesterday, and it's just this wonderful, book-long, rumination on love, work, marriage, gender (No really. Every time I start reading it I feel like going 'Y HELO THAR FEMINISM!') - it's all lovely and v. indulgent. <3
Lol, I have. Episode seven, eh? That's, what, six months from now? *sighs and tries to be zen about the wait* And then we'll have months to worry about the cliff hanger... *meeps*
Although you're right, the code breaking is nifty (if long). I loooooved the basic idea of the code but then I did end up skimming most of the actual breaking of it. I rather wish they'd cut away or something and said "and then they broke the code--go ahead, do it yourself and then come back when you know what the letter said." It's a very second-hand sort of satisfaction to be lead step by step through something and then handed the answer. Come to think of it, that's rather how I feel about detective stories in general. I do treat books like puzzles (to such an extent that I think I badly confused several of my professors with my approach to literature), but there has to be something left open for me to work with. I'm not one to guess ahead at endings--I absorb everything that's given to me and then I get to work.

Saying more will keep me away from reading.
And then we'll have months to worry about the cliff hanger... *meeps* And then we'll have months to analyze and speculate about the cliffhanger! There you go, pollyanna-ed that for you ;-)

I rather wish they'd cut away or something and said "and then they broke the code--go ahead, do it yourself and then come back when you know what the letter said." You know, I'm sure she'd have LOVED to have done that. In one of the books the key to everything is a French letter, and she was forced by the publishers to include a translation. *g*
I'm not one to guess ahead at endings--I absorb everything that's given to me and then I get to work. You might enjoy 'Five Red Herrings' then, since Peter works out a clue at the very beginning that 'the intelligent reader' is asked to work out for him/herself. (It's revealed at the end of course. But it's a neat trick!)
I have it in my hot little hands right now . . . oooo, look at the pretty title page . . . Saying more will keep me away from reading. My lips are sealed. I hope you enjoy it. *crosses fingers*
And then we'll have months to analyze and speculate about the cliffhanger! There you go, pollyanna-ed that for you ;-) Aw, that's terribly sweet. Although I expect showrunners to be evil (anything else would be a disappointment) and also I'll probably stay away from most discussions for fear of being spoiled...

But it's a neat trick!) Hmmmm. I shall take it under advisement. All the details of clues and times and such are still tedious to keep track of, but that might provide some incentive.
Although I expect showrunners to be evil (anything else would be a disappointment) Lol. I don't even know what to say to that.
I'll probably stay away from most discussions for fear of being spoiled... Ah, I suppose that would be a problem what with filming spoilers. That's too bad. I'm usually always thoroughly spoiled, but then, I'm never much bothered by knowing where a story is going and I enjoy the bizarre guessing game that is trying to sort out what all the drabs of information that leak out mean. And watching everybody loose their heads over little things blown out of proportion. That's always fun.
*shakes head* Philistines. Indeed. If people don't speak French, then that's their problem!
Hmmmm. I shall take it under advisement. All the details of clues and times and such are still tedious to keep track of, but that might provide some incentive. Well you don't HAVE to read them all in one go. That one is a pre-Harriet one in any case, so won't impact anything. (The thing that endears it to me now, is that it's set in Scotland, close to where my sister-in-law lives so I know all the places, more or less.)
Lol. I don't even know what to say to that. I come from the School of Joss, and know that all writers are out to get you!
And watching everybody loose their heads over little things blown out of proportion. That's always fun. Oh yes. But I am by nature a spoiler-phobe, although being *in* fandom is making it rather difficult. Still, people are very good about cutting, I have to say. My thing is for the story to surprise me, so the more surprised I am, the better. *g*

Also, I can't explain how happy I am to have been the one to introduce you to all these delights! :)
(Anyway, I've got fic to work on... It's coming along beautifully. Might post it later tonight, or maybe tomorrow.)
