It's great, isn't it? Although it makes me feel old... (When's it from? 2005?) And yeah, I'm at about that stage too! :)
You may be pleased to hear that I'm working on your banner! *dances* (Tt occurred to me that maybe having the words on top of each other might work quite well? If you know what I mean.)
And BGF linked to a possible explanation - guess we should be glad that our humble little community is important enough to be considered a threat. *sigh*
I might make one of my own, because it would have to include twitter, tumblr, the large amount of new shows I'll have to check out due to said tumblr, mass-emailing, and finally taking down my Christmas tree ;)
I'm starting to see more signs of the "panic" part. While AO3 is a great archival option and DW is a great resource for backing up individual LJ accounts (or IJ), the problem is that communities can't be imported. I don't know what options there are for that.
My sense is that the bar on community imports is more a political one than a technical one. Being able to import communities could be a problem in terms of ownership, plus it would add a lot of work to the import process. But I don't think it's actually an inability to import those types of accounts.
But yes, if LJ continues to sink under this pressure it's going to be a disaster on a lot of fronts.
Considering what's happening now, it makes me wonder if the decision about community ownership was done on purpose to prevent usurpation of a forum by some who might want to shut it down. But you're right, it does facilitate some of the issues surrounding who can mirror or transfer a community. DW has already done community transfers but they have been done on a case-by-case basis which is pretty labor intensive.
Yes, things always get lost or broken in moves so it's a good analogy. In the case of Top 5 for example, it'll end up being a record of stuff created rather than a functional archive because 90% of what it points to is on LJ.

It's currently a fairly virulent shade of red/orange but they were the only colours that makes the whole thing tone in. Sorry about that!

And I can see the problem with the colours. Hmmm. Could you maybe make everything fade to white around the images? *is clueless*

I've been friended here by people whose names I know but who have never friended me on LJ. I should feel flattered, perhaps.
I just want my home LJ back. ;-(

And DW is tricky - 'granting access' means I can see your flocked stuff. To add me to your flist you have to 'subscribe' to me. :)

Now I'm gonna have that stuck in my head all day... ::hums along happily::

Although I really, really, really, really hope LJ doesn't go under. It's my home and I HATE moving. :(
