Doctor Who Proms. Part 2. (Eleventy flailing.)
First of all, this:

Because oh yes, the Doctor himself showed up... (Listening on the radio we didn't know just how cute the little boy that he chose as his helper was, but look at him! *meeps*)
Also, programme here (SPOILERS FOR S5!), and lots of youtube recordings here. And (with thanks to
me_llamo_nic) the whole thing on iPlayer, apparently working outside the UK!
Oh and the BBC are going to show the whole thing on TV in September btw.
First of all, here is a video of the Doctor's appearance. (Thank Rassilon for video phones!) The sound isn't great, but it's fun nonetheless.
It's very hard to pinpoint what I loved the most, although it was wonderful to actually see it - I love the way he spins round! - and "It's so thin it's imaginary" is possibly my new favourite line. ♥
Matt has the most wonderful voice (which I knew already), but I noticed something else while I was listening and it's just... odd: Eleven makes me feel safe. I can't explain it at all (Matt's younger than me!), but there's something about Eleven that's just strangely soothing, even as he's running around being all hyper. Something like what
promethia_tenk talked about feeling after the Doctor rescued River from the burning TARDIS and they both reappeared on the rooftop: Mom and Dad are home and everything's going to be alright now. I loved Ten to distraction, but he didn't make me feel safe... (Mostly I wanted to give him a big hug and tell him that everything was going to be OK. With Eleven it's sorta the other way around.)
Anyway, I think I was going to talk about the music? Heh. Loved the music. Have adored the Eleventh Doctor's theme ever since I first heard it in this trailer (I think it's my favourite trailer ever btw. "When I was a little girl, I dreamed of time and space. Last night, all my dreams came true..." The sheer magic and whimsy of the music just makes it soar, and sweeps you up with it, making you believe that you too could have all your dreams come true. It's quite simply utterly irresistible.) Hearing it played by a huge orchestra wasn't bad, oh no! Although my favourite Eleven-centric musical moment might have been during the Pandorica/Big Bang Suite when they included the Doctor's speech, which I love to absolute distraction. *flails* It's just one hell of a speech ("I. AM. TALKING!!!") and it totally gives me goosebumps. (The fact that the bad guys' compliance is all a smokescreen does not detract from this all.)
Also Karen Gillan was charming, Arthur Darvill was lovely and Matt of course was fabulous! And funnily enough when I showed the girls photos taken from later on, when Matt was in a suit, they complained that he looked 'ugly' and need to wear a bowtie! :)
And OMG I need to run now!!

Like I said, the whole thing will be on telly in a month's time or so... :)
I'm having an absolutely fantastic day! Thank you!
My pleasure!

So true. I kind of want him to come with me to, like, job interviews and things to hold my hand.

I have to agree. Mostly he should not slick his hair back; the bangs do so much to soften his face.

I quote Eleven in the Big Bang: "It's okay, it's okay. Don't panic, it's not your fault"
Eleven's good at being the guardian who tries to calm you down when you're upset.... keyword is "tries" of course. Because half the time you're still worried about him doing something to get himself killed. But yeah, Eleven excels at... and this word is so exhausted but I can't help but use it.... being a parent.
Interestingly enough you wouldn't have thought that at the beginning of the series... okay, yeah sure he was great with kids from the get go, but he was ridiculously unreliable (though it wasn't necessarily his fault). I remember the reason I immediately thought something was off about the jacket!doctor scene wasn't because he was wearing the jacket, it was because his attitude was so much more sensitive than what it was seconds ago, the brusque "later" and pat on the head. Aaannnd I'll shut up now.
The prom was fun, the Doctor showed up! And had a kid assistant! How more awesome can you get? Also: "Matt Smith, what a dull name". Speak for yourself Mr. John Smith XD

Dunno if you saw the
Still working on listening to the full performance, but I'm looking forward to it. The music this season has been glorious.
It really has. Like I said, ever since that trailer I've just been hooked...
So true. I kind of want him to come with me to, like, job interviews and things to hold my hand.
*nods* He'd be a bit weird and embarrassing, but it'd be worth it for the calming factor. *wants her own Eleventy*

*much nodding* (Although 'bangs' always cracks me up. Over here that's a fringe. Srsly, my husband didn't believe me when I told him what you called it over there!)

Oh yes, absolutely. But you're not worried about him getting hurt emotionally - I think that's the difference.
But yeah, Eleven excels at... and this word is so exhausted but I can't help but use it.... being a parent.

Oh that's an *excellent* observation. So much yes.

I am still flailing. And I need an icon! (I'm sure there'll be plenty soon!) SO BRILLIANT!
Also: "Matt Smith, what a dull name". Speak for yourself Mr. John Smith XD

*was amongst these women* It's a kind of fuzzy ovary feeling, and it scares the bejezus out of me.
*wants her own Eleventy*
Maybe I could have a pocket version. I can see him sitting in my hand in his little bowtie, and we could talk. Or he could climb around on my desk while I worked . . . *blink, blink* I think I feel a fic coming on. Amelia Pond and her pocket Eleventy . . .
Although 'bangs' always cracks me up. Over here that's a fringe. Srsly, my husband didn't believe me when I told him what you called it over there!
Tee hee. This must be a particular sticking point of Anglo-American relations because I cannot bring myself to say "fringe" for the life of me, and I have trained myself in the use of many a Britishism.

That was my favorite bit. Sucker for meta? Who, me?

LOL!

Mmm. And he would be marvellous company for my pocket Stephen Fry. (I've wanted one of those for years!)

Well she does have plenty of dolls...

How peculiar. (Although I guess Eleven's isn't a fringe so much as a quiff? I'd not call it a fringe if I had to describe it...)

OMG! Want!
Although I guess Eleven's isn't a fringe so much as a quiff? I'd not call it a fringe if I had to describe it...
Never even heard the term. Does it have to do with the fact that the bangs are so much a part of the hairdo as a whole--like almost the same length? Or that they're kind of pushed to the side?
no subject
:)
Never even heard the term.
You mean quiff? Here are some images (A LOT of images, dunno what google's done this time...), but it's not *quite* that either. Anyway, 'bangs' always makes me laugh because it sounds like a plural...
no subject
Bangs are plural, really. *shrug* Actually, I think "fringe" sounds weird to me because it sounds like one monolithic thing. Part of my brain hears that and always thinks of someone with a bit of trimming glued to their forehead.
no subject
It's Timelord hair, it doesn't follow human rules or names...

A lot of fringes look like that, to be honest... *g*
