Birthdays!

A trio of birthday girls today! Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] calturner, [livejournal.com profile] frenchani and [livejournal.com profile] zanthinegirl! Hope you all have a fabulous day!!!!

***

And a couple of brilliant things:

Super Heroes vs. the Westboro Baptist Church. (They've faced down humans time and time again, but Fred Phelps and his minions from the Westboro Baptist Church were not ready for the cosplay action that awaited them today at Comic-Con. After all, who can win against a counter protest that includes robots, magical anime girls, Trekkies, Jedi and...kittens?) THIS MADE MY MORNING!

Guess Who? Identity and Fairy Tale in The Pandorica Opens/Big Bang by [livejournal.com profile] goldenmoonrose. I do not have the words to describe the brilliance of this. *flails*

RE WBC getting told: *cackles* You know, when someone told me they were planning this last week I had a feeling that something like this would happen. Never mess with geeks and nerds, especially by trying to act morally superior (OMG Buddy Christ from Dogma FTW).

You know the ornery part of me wants them to try protesting DragonCon next, because the sheer power of fandom there might destroy them.

Thank you! It's been a good day so far. :D

...so what do the WBC have against parking?

Nerds. Gotta love 'em. :D

Light blasphemy is always a tiny bit awesome. This? Epic.

Aw, man, those fanatics (the WBC) came to my college a few years back to protest a production of The Laramie Project and because my dorm was right across from the performing arts center, I had to walk past them every time I wanted to go anywhere. The students had a big counter-protest and everything, but damn they were creepy.

They deserve all the gleeful irreverence geekdom can throw at them.

That just made my day. LOL.

You know, these days the WBC have not only gone so far, but they've *been* gone so far for so long, that nobody takes them at all seriously. Which is great, because everywhere they go there are counter-protests. And counter-protests, whether serious, surreal, or any mix thereof, have a tendency to be awesome. My personal favorite counter-protest sign: "I have a sign." Also, from this report, I loved their "what do we want?" chant. :-)

(Seriously, I would take a dozen Fred Phelps over one James Dobson-type any day. Same ultimate message and purpose, but couched in realistic Christianity, and it's suddenly incredibly influential.)

Isn't that just the Best Thing Ever? Someone on my flist's husband was at comic-con and watched for a while. It sounds even better in person!

Oh, and belatedly thanks for the birthday wishes! Sadly just now getting to them...

As it happens I just poured myself a cup of coffee! Caffeinated cheers!

And I'm off today, and it's actually sunny. That can't be a bad thing!
