Chapter 2

As the blue box materialised onto a jungle planet, Amelia poked her head out to see a large canopy of green spread out above her. The air was humid, making her sticky and uncomfortable.

I feel like I’m in a greenhouse, she thought, wiping her forehead and feeling slightly dizzy.

“Transos 5!”

A voice, jubilant and bouncy, came from within the pulsating box.

The Doctor strode out, head cocked, smelling the heavily scented air.

“Practically Utopia, this place. The most beautiful planet in the entire galaxy. Well, one of the most beautiful. Not as nice as Zargonell, now that’s one place I wouldn’t mind settling down in.”

Amelia could see his point about how beautiful the place was. Great turquoise leaves adorned a silver sky, plants of every colour imaginable covered the soft soil.

The Doctor flapped a hand at her as he stuck his head in the box, meaning that she should go ahead and that he would catch up.

A metallic sound seemed to be coming from a clearing some way away, but she did not let this faze her. She began to walk, springing on every other step.

After a while, what sounded like footsteps met Amelia’s ears. Of course she knew that it was just the Doctor, but she shivered all the same.

Suddenly, her left foot came into contact with a rock. Falling onto the mossy ground did not hurt at all, in fact it was like jumping onto a feather bed.

No, it was the fact that she broke her large toe that was the problem.

Now even Amelia Pond, tough as nails, cannot break her toe and not cry a bit when she realises just how much it hurts. She nursed the toe and wondered where on earth the Doctor was. Well, where on Transos 5, at least.

Then what felt like a needle hit her neck, and she only had the time to grimace with shock before she slumped on the floor.

The Doctor staggered blindly around the forest. He too had been hit with a tranquilliser dart, but - when concentrating - he could fight the liquid that was currently slipping down his veins.

His vision was slipping slightly, and many of the colours before him were blurred. As he attempted to find the young girl, now alone and in danger, fear washed over him. What if she too was staggering, lost, around the jungle? Or was still walking away from him, unknowing that he was having a slight difficulty in finding her?

He worked even harder to fight the sleepiness that was lapping over him, and his vision grew stronger.

As he got to a clearing, a horrific sight met his eyes.

The Immortality Air.

His eyes grew wider as the gas flew silently towards him, so slowly it was terrifying. As he lost concentration, he grew dizzy again.

“Oh no you don’t!”

He began to run in a determined fashion, the orange sparkling cloud drawing near, looking foreboding.

“Yes!”

The Doctor hid slumped behind a boulder. It was like that air had a mind, or a purpose. But he was safer here, anyway...

As he smiled, he could no longer hold his concentration, and the sleeping draught surged through him.

His head dropped onto his shoulder as he fell unconscious, his smile frozen onto his face.

Just catching up; I am truly enjoying this!

You certainly know how to turn a phrase:

She nursed the toe and wondered where on earth the Doctor was. Well, where on Transos 5, at least.

Tee hee.

And your characterization is better than half the fics I read. Looking forward to more.
