Hee! I'm American and I say "couldn't care less". When I say it. Which isn't often.
I think there's a minority that's giving the rest of you a bad rep! ;)

As for "hold down the fort", I do say that. Hadn't given it much thought, really. I see David Mitchell (and the Queen's) point.
