Maybe Someday. Chapter 15.

The lovely [livejournal.com profile] kathyh was able to beta this v. quickly, so I'm posting already! :) I hope you enjoy although it is short! (You like cliff hangers, right?)

Previous Chapters.

Feedback feeds my muse - and right now I'm afraid that she really needs a good meal! I have most of the rest of the story planned out and I know what's going to happen next. I just don't know *how*. Blank wall. So the next chapter might be a while...

Chapter 15

Dawn was humming happily to herself as she quietly opened the flat door. She threw her jacket on top of Buffy’s new leather coat, which was sprawled in a very large heap on the sofa, and went into her room to put her bag down. She’d not been surprised when there was no Buffy at the bus station - Buffy tried very hard to ‘do the mom thing’, but wasn’t always very reliable. And Dawn really didn’t need parenting any more - she was eighteen years old after all. Although that hadn’t stopped her blushing when Antonio had been flirting with her yesterday... mmm, school trips were certainly of the good.

Going back into the living room, she noted the weapons lying by the front door and nodded, her suspicions confirmed. There had obviously been patrolling last night and Buffy must therefore still be asleep, even though it was now midday. She grinned to herself as she walked to her sister’s bedroom - this would be fun.

Dramatically she threw the door open and declared: “You know - if you sleep this late, people will think you’re still dating vampir-” Her mouth fell open in shock as she took in the sight that greeted her. Not one, but two blondes were staring back at her from the bed, tightly clutching the sheet. And one of them was most certainly not The Immortal who’d fallen over and landed in some bleach. She stared for a few breathless seconds at the half-naked, blue eyed vampire in her sister’s bed, before she turned around and fled.

********

Buffy was dreaming very happily and didn’t really want to wake up, even if it was because Spike was gently kissing her. Snuggling closer into his embrace, she mumbled: “What is it?”

“Don’t want to worry you love, but I can hear someone walking around...”

“Don’t be silly!” she countered, but just then the door to the bedroom was flung open and Dawn strode in - saying something, although Buffy didn’t register what it was. Head still sleep-heavy she stared at her sister, unable to say a word, and then watched as Dawn took in the scenario - before promptly leaving.

“Oh God!” she said, staring wildly around her. “What time is it? I was going to pick her up... I know I set the alarm!”

Spike looked around and proceeded to fish out her alarm clock from under the bed. “I think we... slayed it last night.” he said, a small smile tugging at his mouth. She stared at him, incredulous.

“This isn’t funny!”

“Oh, come on - did you *see* her face?” He tilted his head, amusement glinting in his eyes.

“Yes I saw her face! This was exactly what I wanted to avoid! She’s my sister and she shouldn’t have found out about you - us - this - like this.” She frowned for a moment, trying to work out what she was trying to say: “This isn’t just some stupid joke - this is my life and I’ve just traumatised my sister! Again!”

She jumped out of bed and pulled some underpants from a drawer, ignoring Spike’s appreciative growl. Damn him - sometimes he was just such a... man!

Looking around she grabbed the first thing she could find, which turned out to be her tiny kimono - blood red and very short, with only half-sleeves. She saw Spike pulling on his jeans as she tied the knot, but decided to ignore him and strode out of the room, fuming.

Only a few steps into the living room however, he caught her up - putting a hand on her arm. “Look Buffy, I’m sorry!”

She turned to face him, another tirade on her lips (trying very hard to ignore how hot he looked in nothing but his pants), but just then the front door flew open and in came Illyria, followed by a haggard-looking Angel.

The latter leaned against the door frame and asked: “Are you actually going to tell me what the hell we are doing here?” before looking up and seeing the couple across the room. His face changed from worn and tired to stony in an instant and he slowly turned his head to look at Illyria’s now immobile form: “We’re leaving!” he said, voice harsh.

Buffy felt like her insides had turned to ice. It was one thing to choose Spike over Angel, being all polite and friendly, but to face her first love after having just got out of bed with her new one... and - ohmygod he can smell it, can’t he? she suddenly realised, horrified, as she tried to work out what to do.

Dawn came out of the kitchen then, a croissant in her hand, and already talking: “Buffy, it’s OK really, Andrew told me...” she stopped and looked at Angel and Illyria. “What-?”

Upon seeing her, Illyria’s face lit up - a delighted smile gracing her features.

“The Key!” she said, triumphantly, and in an instant she was standing in front of Dawn, placing a hand upon her chest.

A bright green light, trimmed with blue, shone around and Buffy was frozen on the spot - a horrible feeling of deja vu and inevitable doom settling over her as she watched her sister’s terrified face.

Make haste to Chapter 16! :)

Woah! Now that's an evil cliffhanger!

Loved this chapter though. All of your voices were perfect. And Dawn walking in on Spike and Buffy was really cute! :)

oooOOOOooooo....!

Nice cliffhanger!

It was one thing to choose Spike over Angel, being all polite and friendly, but to face her first love after having just got out of bed with her new one... and - ohmygod he can smell it, can’t he?

*snigger*

Lovely chapter :) Good luck with the figuring out of 'how'!

Wow, those last few sentences felt like a sucker-punch. Didn't see it coming. And great, Dawn is still all keyed up, I love it when stories take that route since I think the show just let the potential in all of that fizzle out.

Ah, so I was wrong about what was happening to Dawn! Seriously, I think that works better. Can't wait to read more.

We-e-e-ll as long a she doesn't hurt poor Dawn....!

Massive reading frenzy here - did all 15 chapters on a go. Do you have any idea how hard it is to readf and microwave leftovers for the kids to eat? ;)

Great twist and turns and so did not see that end coming.

She jumped out of bed and pulled some underpants from a drawer, ignoring Spike’s appreciative growl. Damn him - sometimes he was just such a... man!

Bwahahaha!!! I miss Spike so darn very much.

[identity profile] zanthinegirl.livejournal.com 2005-07-21 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
What a perfect plot twist; I didn't see that that one coming at all! Of course Illria would know all about the key! I'm very curious to see where this latest twist leads.

I've been feeling sorry for Angel so far in this fic, but I think my sympathy is switching to poor Dawn. Fist she walks in on her sister and the ex she though was dead (which would be embarrassing enough for most teenagers) and then Illyria thing... Poor, poor Dawn!

EEEVVOOOLLLL!!!!

I had a lovely evening yesterday catching up on this. I loved so much that the previous chapter was written from Angel's perspective - it made it so much more fun, especially when Spike was teasing Buffy about his and Angel's "daytime" activities, but at the same time gave it an extra depth which was very poignant. And hee! I love your Dawn - And one of them was most certainly not The Immortal who’d fallen over and landed in some bleach - and oh! cliffhanger!

[identity profile] zanthinegirl.livejournal.com 2005-07-21 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
I'll have to check it out. S/D makes me a little nervous, but so far I haven't read anything of your I didn't love!

[identity profile] zanthinegirl.livejournal.com 2005-07-21 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
I just read the story; left some feedback on it's page. Thought provoking!

Woop and boop and woop! So many things happened in this little snippet and now I'm sitting here all on edge wondering about poor Dawn, poor Buffy, poor Angel, poor Spike and, er, not poor Illyria. Yowzers. You write damn good tension!
Damn him - sometimes he was just such a... man!
Heeeee and heeeee and heeeeee :D
He titled his head, amusement glinting in his eyes.
I'm sure we all title Spike's head, but does he? ::hides::

Good luck and offerings of chocolate for the next bits!

Lovely update ! I enjoyed the lighter mood , and Dawn's surprise.
But.. ::tapping foot:: What about my spuffy sex scenes? You're ready to write Spawn porn , and you won't give me some erotic games??!!

I need playful/sensual/luscious moments between them!

More seriously , great chapter , and a perfect twist in the end. But i don't think that Illyria will do any harm to Dawn.

Ambling in from friendsfriends...

Wow, you're really good. Nice characterizations all around, and Illyria made me whoop with glee (what can I say, I'm a little evil).

I think I've been here before, read a couple of your essays. I'm friending you to follow along. :)

I've just found your lj and spent a particularly enjoyable evening reading all of your stories. You have a wonderful talent for writing the BtVS characters and the plots you devise are just fabulous.

Your writing flows delightfully and I've been hanging off the edge of my seat as I've read more. I hope you don't mind me friending you - I found you through the virtual baby shower that [livejournal.com profile] pfeifferpack organised for you yesterday! I was to shy to say hello and good luck then though. *g*

Will look forward to more chapters in your brilliant wip. :o]

You're very welcome to the compliments on your writing, I particularly enjoyed reading about Riley, Spike and Angel together. Sam was just lovely.

Good luck on finishing your wip before baby arrives. Do babies ever keep the schedule that you want though - my son would never have been born if it had been left up to him!

Love your writing!

Aaagh! I've just spent half the day, when I should have been making costumes, planning lessons and all sorts of other virtuous things, reading this and loving every bit of it! It's no good - I'm going to have to start my own LJ just so I can friend you!

Lovely, lovely detail - it all rings so true.

Evil! Evil! Joss-scale evil! Great cliffhanger.

Wow! Dawn walking in on them was comedy gold, and then there's the friction and the ex-boyfriend and another hellgod mucking about with The Key! Breathtaking. Thank goodness I have time for one more chapter *runs to read more*

Oh, wait, the image of Illyria with a delighted smile on her face was very creepy.
