Allah Akbar.
Via Lara: e-source: Allahu Akbars start with deafening intensity. #iranelection. Here is last night.
This is partly an act of defiance, calling back to the revolution in '79 - a way to connect and make your voice heard. But it is also just people crying out to God, begging for help, and it's the thing that more than any other cuts through me. There is something so fundamentally human about this (reminding me of Psalm 88), because the people of Iran are to a large degree alone. All we can do is watch, and make sure that the world knows what's happening.
For those wondering what happened today, here are some tweets via
pfeifferpack here and Sullivan (more if you follow the links):

Eye-witness account from CNN, as well as a first-hand account from a hospital worker. (Sullivan has more as always.)
ETA: Reports now (see Sullivan) suggest that things might not have been *quite* as bad as the tweets suggest, thank god. But it is hard to know what to think when it is near-impossible to get anything confirmed.
ETA2: Apparently it *was* that bad. (Warning: Graphic, disturbing photo.)
ETA3: More here and here.
I honestly don't know what to say, so I'll borrow Kathleen's words:
Please pray for these people (all the people in Iran is what I mean, not just this group)! They are unarmed (save rocks) for the most part and facing deadly situations, cutoff from the rest of the world. Take a moment to send up a prayer or good thought.
We are all brothers and sisters sharing this world and what happens to one happens to all.
